Sorry to have come on here for a complete rant - but had to get it out of my system!! I have recently felt well enough to return to work part time, as a medical secretary ( I have 2 degrees but my body doesn't want me to do my old career - so I had to be realistic) Anyhow a Dr comes through coughing badly, people ask her about the cough she let's us all know she's had it for 18 months and that her own gp suggested it may be fibromyalgia. She then goes on to declare how she looses faith in drs and she'll change drs as she isn't being labeled a 'mad cow'! No-one at work knows about my fms due to ridiculous reactions like this, but I kind of expected more from a gp really. Now of course noone at work will know about my fms either. Has left me feeling disheartened

If I were you I would be sticking posters up everywhere, you don't need to tell anyone your diagnosis xx
I wasn't aware a persistent cough was one of the symptoms of fibro! I know there are a bucket load of them, but that's a new one on me.
Actually it sounds like allergies to me. I had a cough for a long time and found out it was allergies! I am with Lou I would plaster every available surface with fibro information!!!
Wow
How rude and discriminatory about disabled people! Totally innapropriate views to air, not just about disabled people and others in her profession.
I think it tells lots about her as a Doctor and a patient! I'm guessing I wouldn't get along with her and unlike most of us with fibromyalgia hasn't had to research and diagnose herself (I know she's a doctor but you get me) I'm thinking her own dr is one of the good ones.
I hid my fibro and symptoms for a long time at work and it did me no favours as I didn't seek help until it was too late and had to resign my management job in local authority managing a large admin team over several sites. I'm still adjusting to living life on ESA and PIP plus doing some OU study to keep my mind active. I loved my job and was good at it until the fibro got the better of me.
That said, it's a personal thing and your information to keep to yourself or to share - Nobody else's business!
All the best

I am so sorry you had to hear that not only from one of your drs I was wondering what field hope it wasn't rheumatology ,that leaves us no hope ,but from an supposedly open minded health professional what can one say , what if a patient was sat there and they took offence ,if I had been sitting there I would of made a complaint, why can't you do that but not sign it just say you were a patient and this person made this comment in a public place and how upset it made you !
Hugs
Chris
I am so genuinely sorry to read how his disrespectful comment has hurt you, and I want to genuinely and sincerely wish you all the best.
All my hopes and dreams for you
Ken
Thank you all once again for your support - I don't come on here much any more - but it really helps to have a place where everyone understands when I need it. Thanks all - it was very much needed
Hello MJD14,,,,,,,If you have a cough for 18 months, you take cough mixture, opr go to the doctors for further treatment,,,,,,then again if she wants to a martyr,,, you make something up, then shout about it,,,,loudly,,,,.
Have you thought about asking her for any other symptoms???? see what she come out with,,,,,,I don't know about a diagnosis for your condition is made,,,but why would a gp say it could be fibromyalgia without doing the necessary tests,,,,I understood it takes a lot to get the point of saying it really is,,,,,,does it start with a cough that goes on for a long time?,,,sorry i am being rude, as I cannot stand it when people say things that may not be right,,,,well I suppose the only way to find out is to watch her and see what she says/does,,,after all you are an expert,,,as you have been under condition for some time,,,,,,ttfn from Karen.
