Hi all. Can you tell me which meds work for your pain and any other things you do for relief. It's all very new to me so advise would be appreciated. I'm going to see a physio next week so it will be interesting to see what he says and how he can help my fibro/hypermobile body. Thanks guys xx

I see a behavioral therapist and he gives me sleep medication as needed its called silenor 6 mg. The behavioral therapist also gives me effexor generic form for sadness and mood 75mg and I take two in the morning and one at night and that really helps with my mood and supposedly helps with relaxation I used to take xanax but he took me off of that carefully and put me on klonopin instead. I take that for generalized anxiety and I go to a pain doctor for my other two medications I am taking a patch that is 25mcg fentanyl and it lasts for 3 days you stick it on your shoulder it's not very big and it lasts about 3 days. I also have a breakthrough medication called oxymorphone 5mg for the days that are really bad or on the day that I put a new patch. but he said I can take 10mg at once if necessary let me know if you have any questions about any of these medications or if he put you on something I may have tried it and can tell you my side effects good luck with everything it is important to go to a psychiatrist and a pain doctor that way they can work together because fibromyalgia is very complex and I think those two doctors will be the ones that will write you what you need and understand what you are going through just be honest with doc's about what you are taking and how you are feeling between sessions. Because of the fibro fog I have to write things down so that I'm not saying the same thing over and over each appointment. FYI psychiatrist and Pain Dr may record you in the room. Since they document our meetings i do too. So much can happen in a month. If you begin documenting things that happen in your life you may realize some of your triggers that cause your pain . By the way your psychiatrist will look at how you are sitting just to see if you're looking at him or if you're sort of humped over and sad and he can tell if you need a mood stabilizer after I started my effexor. I actually asked my doctor if he was recording me he said yes. Please remember my medications are based off of how long I have been on pain medication and the depression that came along with losing my job and feeling helpless and that I was not a reflexion of myself and I felt so lost and worthless. It has been four years now that have passed and this year he told me I've got to just accept it and move on. I now know these are the cards I've been dealt and I'm going to make the best of it. I try to find the reason I have been given this journey I'm still searching. Good luck with everything Amy

All i take is amitryptiline and paracetamol for pain, i find that along with hot baths this is enough to bring the pain down to a bearable level. Sue :)

I also only take amitriptyline and paracetamol but I also take a few supplements, magnesium, vitamin c, vitamin b complex and cod liver oil. I also see a cranial osteopath bimonthly and exercise gently twice a week. I find this with careful pacing allows me to mostly keep on top of things. Good luck with finding what works best for you. Gentle hugs Steph

By the way I think you are the better looking of the two.

I use Pregablin (Lydrica) for the shooting, burning pain and have Ibuprophen and Cocodamal 30/500 mg. I did try Butrans patches but found they were no more effective and they started to cause me an intense itch and redness around the patch site. I have tried DHC Continus and I thought they were okay but when my doctor changed he was not keen on heavy duty painkillers for fibro so he switched my meds. I get a session of electro acupuncture every four months on my back and I did find hydrotherapy was really helping but unfortunately in my area you are limited to 6 sessions. Needle acupuncture did nothing for me unfortunately. I do gentle stretching exercises and some core exercises and try to keep as supple and active as I can but get fatigued and in pain easily so have to pace myself.

Good luck with whatever you try.x

I take quite a few medications, but please remember that we are all unique individuals and what may work for one person may not work for another. I also have a TENS Machine for the pain.

I want to genuinely and sincerely wish you all the best of luck.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

Hello,

When I was first diagnosed I was put on Amitryptaline and Meloxicam. The Amitryptaline started to increase over the months and they made no difference to how I felt. I felt the same - dreadful! So 10 months ago I decided I needed to do something so I visited a Homeopath. It's been a long journey and I can say I am no longer on prescription medication. I take a long side my homeopathic remedies, Omega 3 high strength, vitamin D3 and Magnesuim Citrate. I can honestly say I feel amazing. Yes I still get the odd flare up when I've overdone things and still some pain but it in now a lot more manageable. The pain was always at 9 or 10 and now I'm at a 2. I do take warm baths with Arnica oil and also rub that into my neck and shoulders as that is where most of my problem is. It has been a journey that I now feel I am winning! Good luck, always happy to chat!

Thank you Hezzy. I'm avoiding prescription meds as well. I'm going into a decompression chamber tomorrow. Xx
