Fibromyalgia/depression and PIP

Hi I'm new here and just wanted to know if anybody has successfully claimed PIP for Fibromyalgia and depression? I had my assessment on Mon 20th July 15 and the lady who did my assessment was lovely and very sympathetic and I dont think it could've gone better! But as I have Fibromyalgia I know some medical professionals still dont believe in it so would be very interested to read other sufferers' experiences. Thanks in advance xxx

Hi and welcome, Yes I get pip standard rate for care and mobility. Had my assessment about 6 weeks ago at home with atos, got the result in 10 days so was really fast on outcome. Didn't agree with everything the assessed said but was pleased to get something of them and haven't got the energy to appeal it, it was nice to have my fibromyalgia recognised as still think a lot of people don't believe it's an illness unless there living with it themselves or see the struggles u go though day to day, hope u get a good outcome and all the best

I had my pip assessment on the 2 July and on the 10th got reply. Got awarded enhanced care and standard mobility,and the gentleman that did mine was rude and didn't want to listen to what I had to say,I felt like crying when I came out.

I to didn't agree with everything that they said,but was glad to get some help.Hope your out come is good, let us know how you get on.

Hi I'm new on this site, I can't believe there's so many people like me, I'm in pain all the time even in the night from my hips to my toes and I also have arthritis and on loads of medication a day I hate it

I was awarded standard rate for care and mobility for fibro, the lady who did mine was lovely,she was very sympathetic ,I now have a blue badge, so it's worth trying for

i have my atos medical for esa is that the same as pip ?

Hi rosieb

No. That's not the same.

ESA stands for Employment Support Allowance. This is applied for if you are unable to work due to illness. This is applied for instead of JSA which is Job Seekers Allowance, if you are well enough to work, but cannot find a job.

PIP stands for a Personal Independance Payment, which you can apply for if you have a disability, for example Fibromyalgia.

PIP is being rolled out across the country and is taking the place of DLA which used to be Disability Living Allowance.

hi I get DLA already and have a medical for ESA today . but no news on the pip front yet but someone told me they do take these medicals into consideration when dealing with the chance in circumstances ..I do have other problems apart from fibromyalgia ,I really hate these medicals as I always do what they say ie excerises and im really bad for a few weeks after .

thank you .hate these medicals they cause me a lot more pain not fair as the hosps and drs know me and know what to do but these people only want to know how you are on the day they see you not fair x

I scored 0 on everything says a lot about my intuition haha. Apparently because I made good eye contact and appeared clean and well presented, that means I have no problems with washing myself or social anxiety (whaaaat?!) I'm pretty annoyed tbh. I walk with a pronounced limp a lot of the time and can't sit for any amount of time, also my son (21) does lots for me. I can't use the oven (the assessor saw the burns on my arms and hands where I have tried to use the oven!) I can't lift saucepans as my wrists give way, I even dropped a cup of water all over myself in front of her because my wrist gave way...I'm not impressed! I will obviously appeal as the assessor has kind of taken things at face value....I mean just because I have learnt to deal with my depression and anxiety doesn't mean that I'm not freaking out inside!! Maybe I should've started hyperventilating and completely freaking out in the assessment room, but I won't exaggerate or pretend my symptoms are worse 😠😠😠

Get in contact with Fightback, they are a disability rights campaign group and help people who've had problems applying for PIP. Advice is free and they can even fill forms in for you for a small donation. They also have a very high success rate.

hi I have just got my report from ESA and though and behold I have been put into a support group now the woman dr was lovely but I was so tired by the end of the afternoon I had enough I fell asleep in my chair and she was lovely and told me to go home and she would finish it off with out me xthats one down and PIP too go when they decide its my turn x

Hi sweety my friend went for medical assessment two days later she got a text saying that hir medical was successful and did not need to hand in anymore fit notes and that hit ESA would carry on but then day after reseved a letter saying to come to an interview for getting back in to work do you think this was sent before they new result of hir medical assessment she suffers bad with bones and depression

Hi I have fibromyalgia as well as other ailments, I went for a face to face assessment, I was struggling to walk,the lady who saw me was helpful and polite and seem to understand my condition and struggles, I was in there about 1 hour and 30 , long story short, I got refused pip and the accessed lied on everyone of my question, not saying this to dishearten you, but I think you need to be weary of how nice these assessors are.
