Hey Jane i also have just been diagnosed. With 2 years thinking because i have back issues i could never scuba dive again this diagnoses has freed me to start to believe i can do it again. The pain will hurt but i have found going to the Gym and strengthening core muscles has helped me lessen acute pain episodes. so dont give up in time you may be able to start dancing again. x be strong and you can do anything (within limits) :-) x

Thank you. A sign of relief. I go swimming, I thought the gym would make it worse but I'm going to give it a go🎈

Thank you

Im not a doctor and everyone is different, the gym helps me but i only do soft exercise with little weight. maybe start with a personal trainer or consult with your doctor ?

Welcome to the forum you will find it a wonderful supportive group.

Could you get a referral from your doctor to see a physio to get advice on what exercises you could do. Hydrotherapy is marvellous all that warm water and gentle exercise if you ever have a chance to go grab it with both hands.

I have been given a group of exercises to do and have religiously done them since October but I have the horrible feeling that they are actually doing me more harm than good so I am leaving them off for a few days to see whether it helps and going back to my gentle stretches.

Have you tried Tai Chi as alot of people have found that helps.

Keep in touch with us and tell us what you end up doing.x

Oh yeah, tai chi is wonderful. I've just been looking for the right instructor and waiting for when I can afford it. Tai Chi really needs to be learned with aninstructor live.

I do Yoga, very gentle version of what I used to do. I had learned it from several different instructors, but now I do it with my favorite CD, or just do some of the stretches for specific muscle groups. I think it helps a lot and would even more if I had discipline enough to do it regularly!

I would take up swimming again, but I had a bad accident some years ago, that could have been a lot worse if I were not with a friend in the pool. Now I have a bit of a phobia, don't like the chlorine smell (hypersensitive to smell, light, and sound), don't care much for chattering people taking aquatic therapy, and the light bouncing off the pool, not to mention self-consciousness about my legs.
