Hi anbuma I think the ESR refers to amounts of inflammation in the body.Have you had your private appointment and scan yet? If so how did it go? X
seen private gynae -said ovaries fine and discussed other possibilities-coeliac disease- gluten etc.told her done them and all ok,still keeping scan appointment from gp,gp I saw today said inflammatory bowel disease from stool samples a couple of months ago and have to have another endoscopy.why didnt my own gp consider this ?still think the swollen abdomen Is something else cos had it for much longer - 3 years and the 3 stone I ahve gained is all abdominal and only had one bout of constipation and one of diarrheoa and they were only recent not ongoing.
Hi anbuma
I hope that you are well today? I have taken some blood counts from the WebDR and about.com drs and Medicine Plus for you to compare with yours. I do not really know much about the subject but it may help you to check your results?

The FBC provides a total white cell count (WCC)/white blood cell count (WBC) and an automated differential WCC. Typically, this includes information about:
Neutrophils
Lymphocytes
Monocytes
Eosinophils
Basophils
The FBC report often shows the % of each type of white cell but, unless the absolute WCC is known (as x 109), it may be of limited value.
Neutrophils (polymorphs or polymorphonucleocytes)
Guideline normal values: 2-7.5 x 109/L, comprising 40-75% of WBCs.
Eosinophils
Guideline normal values: 0.04-0.44 x 109/L, comprising 1-6% of WBCs.
Monocytes
Guideline normal values: 0.20.8 x 109/L. comprising 2-10% of WBCs.
Basophils
Guideline normal values: up to 0.01 x 109/L, comprising 0-1% of WBCs.
TAKEN FROM MEDICINE PLUS:
Normal Results
Neutrophils: 40% to 60%
Lymphocytes: 20% to 40%
Monocytes: 2% to 8%
Eosinophils: 1% to 4%
Basophils: 0.5% to 1%
Band (young neutrophil): 0% to 3%

I can't comment on those results ambuma, I only know my own.
I keep a check on my CRP and ESR.
I would be delighted if my ESR was an 8
Your gp should discuss any results with you.
It measures the inflammation in your body and mine is always 3 times the highest level. Guess it's due to the fibro. Hope this helps answer your concerns sweetheart!!! xxx Mitzi
