thanks for all your ideas .came up with this as a border(not to scale) with goal in the middle.having problems with the boy cos when I uploaded his photo to the cross stitch program -didn't get true colours ie his hair which is light came out in shades of purple and black shorts also came out purple same with his face-not flesh coloured but shades of light mauve.

Gosh, do you have to work it out on graph paper and then transfer it over to the cloth ? You must have a very artistic talent - I'm not sure I could do such fine work, I was hoping to do a kneeler but I got to about half way through one side and my hands hurt so much I had to stop - so kudos to you for managing such great works

no.not that clever I have a program on my computer called Easy Cross.upload pictures onto it and it produces a chart.i haven't yet figured out if I can upload a second pic onto the original if that makes sense so I print them both off and scan them back in. I do any lettering on graph paper so I can see what it looks like and position it before stitching .tho if I am taking designs from a book to stitch say a birth sampler then i may draft that on graph paper.
WOW! That looks great! And it also seems rather technical to me? Please post a picture of it when it's all done, I would love to see it?
