Pains in my stomach and feel sick all the time. Has anybody else had these symptoms?
I have a small hiatus hernia, but no swelling. If it is to do with my fibro, can any one recommend what I can take. I have found this much worse, then pains in my body. Hope someone can help me!

I am so sorry to read that you are suffering so much at this time, and I genuinely hope that you can find some resolution and relief to these issues. I do not experience such stomach pains, but this does not mean they are not Fibro related? I have pasted a link to our mother site page on Fibro symptoms, so I hope you find it useful:
I was wondering if you have been given any referrals to a pain management clinic or Rheumatology? As they may be able to help with this problem? It is well worth asking your GP for a referral?
I want to wish you all the best of luck and welcome to the site, I sincerely hope that you find it useful?
Thank you for your help. I have been to pain management. It was two days a week for a month. Found it useful and met some really lovely people which was good to know that I was not going mad and that other people were going through the same thing. I am gradually coming of my antidepressants, but these last few weeks with my stomach, I feel I am going backwards again!! x
It really doesn't sound very pleasant for you? If you are taking a lot of medications it could be something that doesn't agree with you? I want to wish you the best of luck with finding some answers to this problem.
Hi there sorry to read you are unwell, may I ask you what meds you are on?
Hi Lizzy82 - I am so very sorry to hear about your pain. A hiatus hernia on top of fibro is not fun and I speak from personal experience. Some people can have a hernia and not know about it for years. Sadly I think having FMS increases the ability to feel the hernia and symptoms (opinion only - for this I have no actual facts to hand!).
I've had my hernia a couple of years now. I found getting rid of gluten/wheat from my diet did help considerably as these can cause gas and increase acid in people less tolerant (which is very common). Then I started taking Lansoprazole as this helps to control the acid in your stomach. Many people with hernia's find that acid reflux is a big problem. Even with drugs I still find I get a rush of salty water in my mouth at times, often feel sick. bloated and get a lot of stomach pain. There are other ways that this can be helped. Don't lie down after eating, don't bend or stoop after eating - in fact it is recommended that you sit uprightly, quietly and relax after a meal. Don't make a meal too heavy. I have raised my bed head about 8 inches - this is said to help hiatus hernia's at night by keeping reflux issues reduced by mere gravity!
I would suggest you go and see your GP again and see if you can get Lansoprazole or omeprazole (tends to be drugs ending in 'zole') and that will help any acid and reduce stomach pain. There are lots of lifestyle recommendations that you can try to see if it will help manage the problem. Doctors mainly suggest lifestyle changes rather than resorting to an operation. The operation is called Nissan Fundoplication and is not undertaken lightly as it can cause as many problems as it solves. Saying that my elder sister had the operation and it was successful. It does mean she can no longer vomit, drink fizzy drinks, has to be careful with bread and foods like steak... She had far less symptoms than me but was offered the operation straight away. I was told 'they won't operate' even before I had the hernia diagnosed! She lives in an area controlled by a different Care Commissioning Group.
I hope this information is of help - if you think I can help any further then please feel free to ask me anything you want. If I know the answer then I'm more than happy to share.
Whatever you decide to do I sincerely wish you luck.
Thank you so much for the information . I have had both tablets and they have not worked. I have been keeping a note of what I eat, to eliminate if the pains are worse on that date. It is strange that during the night it is not so bad, but as soon as I have a drink or something to eat in the morning it starts the pains off and does not go away. It's bad enough having all the other pains, but I feel this is much worse!!
My daughter gets married in five weeks time, I have no energy and cannot get excited, which is such a shame. xx
Yes, I had forgotten that one and have heard that it is one of the best. The drug is esomeprazole, brand name Nexium. Thanks for mentioning it here - I had meant to make a note of it for a future visit to the GP but couldn't remember the name.
yes. I have been diagnosed with fibro and a hiatus hernia both can be painful and I often get a bloated sickly feeling. Docs don't seem to bother so I tried some things of my own. I found stopping gluten / wheat and cutting down on coffee has helped. as these cause bloating and gas. I have peppermint or fennel tea purchased from super markets as they can be cheaper than health stores, this relaxes the stomach muscles and helps to reduce gas. Don't have a meal for at 2 hours before bed and try lying on your left side in bed this allows food to move more freely and so helps to release gas. Try asking your GP for domperidone these help food pass through your system faster so preventing fermentation and thus creating less gas, they also help to reduce the sickly feeling. Good Luck.
a hernia is a small tear in the muscle and the underlayer pokes out and causes pain it needs surgery to correct see your doctor but their are medications to help reduce and correct the problem but you do need to talk to someone and have a referal to see how bad the hernia is
That's how my fibro started. Sorry to say I went through everything, took med's from another country and nothing helped me. I'd have good day's but more bad. I really hope you find some relief sweetheart. I went to a pain clinic and that helped some. xxxx Mitzi
I have been to the pain clinic too. Some of the ideas were ok, but I learnt more from the other ladies who were there. One in particular we meet up once a month. I have been coping with my pains, but the ones in my stomach are really getting me down. Have been to the doctors and have tried two different types of tablets, but they have made no difference, I am so fed up, going back and forth and not getting any where.xx
I here you sweetheart. I was sent to two top ranking hospital's without any answers. Hang in there. I wish I could do something, but it's one of the curses of fibro. Hope you start feeling better. xxx Mitzi
