Dreaming.

I read somewhere on this site that a feature of fibro is not dreaming? Is that the case? I dream a lot, whenever I fall asleep. I dream before I have been asleep five minutes, and often wake myself up talking in my sleep. In fact it seems that I dream constantly.

I looked at a few sites on the internet and rem sleep is the stage before deep, healing sleep. I also found out that you can dream in any stage except the good healing deep sleep that we all lack.

My question is,do you dream?

Hello Lampain,

Apologies, I think I maybe didn't make it clear as I think you must've read my comment on the sleep poll about when I sleep well I dream then feel better in the morning. Sorry it was just chatter.

So sorry to confuse there has been no sleep studies to my knowledge in relation to REM sleep & Fibro. If I find any sleep studies apart from the one I mention on poll comment I'll let you know. You are right it's Stage 4 we skip which is restorative sleep, please see link to comment;

healthunlocked.com/fibroact...

(I've adding 'From my personal experience' in the sentence, apologies again)

But to answer your question I dream less than when I was healthy with a mixture of good & bad dreams usually always colour with me being me although have had one where I was watching me which was weird!

Anyone dream in Black and White only ?

Emma :)

Hi lampain

I sincerely hope that you are feeling as well as you possibly can be today? I am very prone to nightmares, I have some real shockers that make me wake up holding my chest! It is so unpleasant.

I genuinely hope that you can find some answers to your question.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Hi, I also have very vivid dreams, talk in my sleep and sleepwalk acting out my dreams. I even dream when just having a short nap & often wake up in a panic from dreams, not knowing where I am. Think my dreams often wake me before I get to the restorative sleep x

Hi, I have really vivid dreams, and more often than not they are terrible nightmares that stay with me well into the next day. I've always had very vivid dreams since I was a child, but I've noticed no difference since developing Fibro, they can still be as frequent and distressing as ever :( xx

Hi everyone. I too dream vividly and in colour, always have. I used to dream a lot about flying/ floating as if when I take a step I bounce into the air. I think these were when I was feeling positive. Just can't get any positive feelings lately, sick and tired of this horrendous desiese. Xx

Dreaming exists in REM sleep, and fibro people are ok with REM sleep. The sleep that fibromyalgia interferes with is called Stage 4 and there is no dreaming associated with that. I find that I dream more, probably because I remember my dreams more because I don't have such deep sleep. Also some medication that is used for fibromyalgia is associated with dreams in some people. Hope that helps! x

I have lots of vivid dreams! REM sleep is the one when you have lots of vivid dreams.

Hi all, Mdaisy it was not your comment, which was quite clearly personal experience it was something else, but I can't remember who wrote it. I could blame fibro, but names have always been a problem with me! In answer to your other question, I always dream in colour :-)

Gins,

I have very strange and varied dreams, but unless I talk about them once awake they fade from memory very quickly. Last night I was at a fairground I have been to before in my dreams. I was again lost amongst the noise and the lights feeling alone vulnerable cold and terrified, sobbing. I don't remember anything like that in my childhood so I don't know where I got this terror from.

In contrast I have a favourite dream where I'm wandering round an old house, which is mine by inheritance. I see a shape hidden in the wallpaper which reveals a door, and I discover it leads into a beautiful Victorian potting shed with a glass roof, and racks and racks of old pots, a long bench and all the tools laid out as though only just used. The light is soft and golden and I can see dust motes dancing as I move and disturb the air.The whole dream is peaceful and happy, and I only wish I could go there e very night!

Can I come along? Sounds like fun

I think I know the post you mean but no chance of finding it again. I think there was something about healing sleep. I dream, too but don't always wake up rested.

Your second paragraph is perfectly normal, dreams often fade quickly and I've not seen an explanation for the dreams that don't. We're all different with different levels of fibro and other conditions so while we often fit one box, we don't always fit all boxes. :)

I have very vivid dreams. Some can be quite disturbing and scary, most of them involve the sea. I have a recurring dream in which I am being forced to leave my home, but no one can tell me why.

I try to make sense of them but I can't. XXX

Constantly, very odd for me not to dream. I talk, shout, fight in my sleep as well. Dreams combined with drugs can be scary, sometimes its hard to shake nightmsres off as so realistic. I seem to do so much in my sleep maybe thats why i am so knackered next day? I read this recently too about not dreaming and fibro, certainly not in my case.

I dream every night, it feels like all night sometimes, I can wake up feeling like I've been busy all night! I also have a reoccurring dream, when I am worried or anxious I dream that I am in school and I've lost my timetable, the bell rings and I am the only one who doesn't know where I am going and which lesson I have next. I'm 50! X x

Omg, that's got to be a memory dream, it takes me back to being the smallest sprat in the comprehensive school pond, alone amongst 1500 people( not including teachers) and being the only one who didn't know where they were or more importantly where they were supposed to be! An awful dream indeed!

This thread is very interesting and its quite clear that most of us DO dream an awful lot, and nightmares aren't rare either.
