ESA & WCA enquiry - call for evidence... - Fibromyalgia Acti...
ESA & WCA enquiry - call for evidence by the select committee
Hi Kirby
Thank you so much for this. I have followed the link and it has some really useful information about ESA on the page in relation to classifications of what determines the parameters for ascertaining ESA, and the thresholds that are acceptable to the governing body i.e. limited capability for work.
There was something that I found distasteful on the matter (unless I have misunderstood it) and that is material collected for scrutiny and their findings, can be placed openly on the internet for public scrutiny. If I have misunderstood I would be grateful to anyone who can explain what the final segment means?
Thank you

Hi Ken
Many thanks for your feedback. I think the Select Committee do a good job in holding the DWP to account but I can understand your concerns. However they do say this:
"The Committee normally, though not always, chooses to make public the written evidence it receives, by publishing it on the internet (where it will be searchable), or by making it available through the Parliamentary Archives. If there is any information you believe to be sensitive you should highlight it and explain what harm you believe would result from its disclosure. The Committee will take this into account in deciding whether to publish or further disclose the evidence."
In other words, you can, I imagine, submit evidence and asked not to be identified and probably you can submit evidence anonymously or under a 'user name'. I don't think there is anything sinister in their publishing it on the internet. I think it's that they are being transparent and making all the evidence available. This can be a good thing eg the writers of the Spartacus report needed the evidence from the submissions in order to put together their report.
Hope that reassures but you can always drop them an email if you are concerned.
Best wishes

Hi Kirby
Many thanks for this and I hope that you are as well as can be?
I think its really useful especially for people trying to ascertain ESA with the determination of 'fit for limited work'. I always think that many people lose out on their rightful benefits because they don't understand how this system works. However, by referring to this prior to tribunals etc it would give wonderful guidelines to how the system works and what is required as it is so easy to say the wrong thing during assessments and you will be declined. So thank you do much for this.
Take care
