Suppressed Immune system?

I am wondering if Fibromyalgia can lead to having a suppressed immune system. I just can't seem to shake of this darned cold.

I've always understood that Fibro was liked to the immune system, but I am always ready to be proved wrong, but I hope you start to kick it off and feel much better very soon :-)

I always find myself that whenever I have a cold or infection it is harder for my body to shake it off.Ive been having urine infections for two years and iam sure it is because my immune system is weakened x

I'm the same!! I've had 2 urine infections in the last 2 months!! Can't think of a reason why! I've been told it could be because of all the antibiotics I've had in the last 3 months. I've also been told it could be my shower toilet, spreading germs. Who knows?!? XX

I`m totally opposite,I`ts been 6yrs since I last had a cold. A new zeland specialist on u tube says that studies there show that some with fibro actually have an enhanced immunity. If that`s true or not don`t know

I have heard so much and everything seems to contradict the others. Do you take any extra vitamins or anything?

Since i have had fibro, the longest a cold has lasted was half a day, and then it goes, but before fibro i had normal colds, so maybe its true about the enhanced immunity

Hopefully this cold may just be a one off but at the moment each day it seems worse. Maybe it takes time for the immunity to build up? When I was teaching, I never got bad colds, flu, etc as I seemed to have a charmed immunity to it all but now.....

Hey Jillylin, I find when I am in a bad flare up I pick everything going around! And same as Haribo, I've been having a run of UTIs for the last couple of years.

I also had understood that Fibro is linked to the immune system and can be triggered by continued lowered immunity (in my case as a result of years of tonsillitis as a teenager) I take a general health and iron tonic. Eccinacha is recommend to help boost immunity as it vitamin c.

Big hugs! Feel better soon xoxo

Hi,

I had heard Eccinacha was good for helping support the immune system. I am going to try it. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hey zosie, iam glad iam not alone.Have you found that the infection keeps flaring up your fibro?x

I don`t take vitamins of any kind, One thing that always puzzled me before bad flair and diagnosis was that instead of getting a cold like every one else around me I would get aches all over and be fuzzy headed Am I allowed to give out the name of the doctor on u tube? because I found that even though It i now a bit out of it was interesting

Hi Mayrose we actively discourage naming as often it becomes shaming it is all in the regulations so do have a look. I think in most cases if you dont name you wont be in trouble. I hope this helps xgins.

Thanks gins I`ll leave it alone.

I swear by high dose garlic!! I take 1 tablet every day and, luckily (fingers crossed and touch wood) I only seem to get the beginnings of a cold then it goes!! XX

Hi sue,is that black garlic? X

sue32 profile image
sue32 in reply toharibo36

No, it's ordinary garlic. When I read up about black garlic, although it appears to be really good for you, it can be more 'smelly' and I didn't really want that!!!!! The garlic I take is 1200mg per tablet and it doesn't smell at all....not from your pores or your breath!! XX

I agree. I'm an advocate for alternative therapies/medicines but also have a lot of respect for them.. Some natural meds can be very powerful. If you go to a good independent health store they can often help or speak with a herbalist. Staff at popular health chain store often do not have the knowledge. I hope whatever you choose to do that it helps. x
