Hi there Icm, lyrica (pregbalin,) is the same family as Gabapentin, but possibly stronger both are used for epilepsy and fibromyalgia, I take gabapentin, tramadol, sertralin, and cocodamol for back up if needed, but i dont feel anything takes the pain away completely, gentle hugs to you ...Dee x

They are similar .. But lyrica is stronger at a lower dose.. If that makes sense I had to read it a couple of times... I actually saw a youtunes advert for lyrica in which this slim American woman told every one how lyrica had saved her life she was slim looked great and had gone back to work... All the while she was trilling away across the bottom of screen was scrolling all the side effects ... It was a weird advert..... But everyone was complimenting it on how truthful they were being on listing the side effects in this way....

I can't personally comment on either as I don't take them I take some extremely old cheap stuff which suits me perfectly ...

Youtunes = YouTube .

I take Gabapentin apparently Preglablin according to my GP is much more expensive to prescribe even though they are from the same group of medicines,therefore most GPs prescribe Gabapentin first,however its still a guessing game as to which drug works for or suits each individual,thankfully for me Gabapentin has had a positive effect on some of my symptoms xxx

I was doing fine on Lyrica/pregabalin until my gp decided it was too expensive to prescribe. A week of hell followed as the Lyrica stopped. ........ we had a two day gap for baseline blood tests and the gabapentin began slowly and gradually. So far...........not totally kiling pain....definitely more mobility but but highs and lows mood wise at the moment.....hope it levels out soon.........cant believe it was changed for cost reasons when I was actually managing ok with it. Everyone is different and everyone will react differently to the drugs. I need a clear head tor my job so I cant take strong painkillers that cause sleepiness

thanks everyone, this is really helpful, not on the full dose of Gabapentin, so will ask GP to up it as having dreadful spasms at the mo. Hubby said it was like the Alien in bed, I physically leave the mattress and go in the air! Plus throat spasming whilst I'm eating, not good!!!!!

Hugs to you all xxxx

Hi i was on gabapentin for about 10 uears, my pain specialist then changed it to Pregabalin,

he said that Pregabalin is just a more up to date and slightly better medicine but that it acts exactly the same as Gabapentin, i havent had any problems changing over, just feel the same with either, amanda x
