I am under the pain management team. They asked me loads of questions, and then they checked and revised my meds. I was also given a tens machine and had a 6 week course of relaxation techniques.

They were very helpful

I'm also under pain management team. Got another appointment the end of the month. They're trying different meds with me to see what works best. Tramadol doesn't seem to do much to ease the pain anymore.

I hope you find it helpful and supportive when you go.

Hi,

I did this course and it was helpful on many different levels. I have my follow up appointment next month and am told I will be offered more support if needed. My course was run by the Consultant Physiotherapist, Clinical Psychologist ( who does not delve into your past, etc but helps you with CBT, etc to gain more control over your pain) and the Consultant Occupational Therapist. They were very understanding and so lovely.

I hope your experience is just as good

Hugs

I have been through the Pain Management procedure and rest assured they are so understanding on every level and it is very refreshing to speak with people who totally understand and believe what you say, as my Pain Management Consultant told me truthfully he can't take the pain away, but they have all these coping strategies to help you cope with the pain, "medication etc" it was actually Pain Management that diagnosed my Fibro, when no one else believed a word that was coming out of my mouth, and sorry to say one of my GP's as much as told me it was all in my mind, my Pain Management Consultant wrote a letter to the practice, to be put in my files. emphasising that it was not all in my mind, what I was experiencing was very real, so I say Thank God for Pain Management, I do not think anyone would ever have to worry or stress about attending that clinic. SOFT WARM HUGS

Hey. One thing it did for me was teach me how to pace myself ,which is really important. The other thing was leave me with a knee injury that is and has been for the last five years very painful and made life harder ,it was because of excersise s mine pain did not discuss pain meds I might need at all .I would not worry go with an en mind you be fine ,just don't do more than you feel is right .

I briefly went to a Pain Management course run at Milton Keynes Hospital. and it was good at all, they gave me a TENS machine which made my pain worse and also cortisone injections, which also didn't help and all they wanted to do was give me more of them, no matter what I said to them, so I left. luckily enough that I had a very good GP and he passed me onto a great consultant, who managed to get me on a Pain Management Course and also a Chronic Fatigue management course (both in Aylesbury), as other have said they can't make the pain go away but the coping strategies they taught me helped a lot, how to spot what your doing and how it effects your pain levels and management of them, and also being able to speak to people who understood was a life saver.I have also been on CBT course which re-enforced a lot I had been given at the courses in Aylesbury. How to pace yourself is important.

Go with an open mind and hopefully you'll find something that helps.

Best of Luck

Hello Matrix, a CBT course is a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, it basically about What your thinking, how it makes you feel and how this effects you and how it all works in a cycle.

Here is the start of what the NHS say about it: Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a talking therapy that can help you manage your problems by changing the way you think and behave.

CBT cannot remove your problems, but can help you manage them in a more positive way. It encourages you to examine how your actions can affect how you think and feel.

Talking and changing your behaviour can change how you think (cognitive) and what you do (behaviour). This can make you feel better about life.

The page can be found here: nhs.uk/conditions/Cognitive...

It does help at times especially with the depression I suffer, and I'm sure many of us do, due to the effects of our friend Fibro. As I said it was very similar to the things I had learnt of the Pain Management and Chronic Fatigue Management course, but every little bit of helps I say.

Hope that's of some help?
