Is there anything I can do or take to help my embryo?

Hiya. I am halfway through my second round of Ivf. Is there a vitamin or folic acid that I should start taking to try to help my embryo (if it survives defrosting) ?

Folic acid is meant to be taken for 3months before trying to get pregnant. But pregnacare seems good and you can get it off the shelf in most superstores :)

Thank you sachablack. I will get some. I tried folic acid on my last cycle of Ivf and when I was on chlomid and it made no difference. I had to have my only embryo frozen as I was constantly bleeding after egg collection. I have to wait until beginning of April now to try tablets and cyclogest and hopefully my embryo will survive being defrosted. I should be okay to start pregnacare this week tho shouldn't i?

I have no idea, can you not ask your GP what would be best? Or your IVF doctor? All I know is that folio cause works best when it has been taken solidly for 3 months. It has to build up in your system. But I am not a doctor. So I would ask your doctor for a definitive answer

Hi paeroking. Just to echo the others. Any woman trying to get pregnant should be taking Folic Acid every day beforehand and during the pregnancy. Yes, “Pregnacare” is a good source of vitamins and Folic Acid too, so please keep taking them. Folic Acid is especially important, as it helps to protect your baby from conditions like spina bifida and other conditions associated with the brain and spinal cord. Just make sure you are eating a good healthy diet and drinking plenty of fluids. I wish you well with this round of IVF and hope for a positive outcome. Regards Diane

Hi Paeroking,

Good luck with your FET. I'm also in the middle of of FET (currently in the 2ww). I've read that brazil nuts are good, and contain a similar substance to pineapples. (I can't eat or drink acidic things because of the effect on my endometriosis).

Good luck to you too. Fingerscrossed we will both have some good news.

Hi Paeroking, please do run past anything you decide to take with your clinic, to check that it doesn't counter-affect anything they have prescribed as they weren't developed with fertility treatment in mind. Mine only wanted me to take folic acid and what they have prescribed for that reason.

They will be recommending folic acid, but that is around the health of the embryo, not increasing chance of success. You've said you have had issues with embedding of the embryo, is that a diagnosis the clinic have given you?

Hiya flower girl. No they havnt run any tests. I get swollen up inside. Nobody has looked into that even though I have told each gynea that I have seen. I have fibroids aswell which doesn't help. This time around the clinic hasn't told me to take anything at all. Nobody has mentioned folic acid this time. We know that my hubby got good sperm count but weak sperm with downs syndrome gene in his sperm.
