2 round of IVF plus egg quality

Hi all,

hope you guys are well, devastated that my first cycle didn’t work and I only had one embryo. My missed miscarriage happened last week and waiting for all the bleeding to come out.

Last time when I had my eggs retrieval I only had 3 eggs and one went to frozen embryo. I had endometriosis all around my body, I had my surgery after my eggs retrieval.

Endometriosis affected my egg quality.

My question is for the next cycle to happen how long did you guys wait?

How many eggs did you guys get? Did you got more or less eggs.

I am getting really emotional thinking about the eggs retrieval cause last time I only managed to get one egg to frozen Embroy.

Also I am 39 and I am going to be 40 next year.

the whole IVF is such a struggle and emotional journey.

love you all x

hello,

Hopefully your consultant can advise on trying a different protocol this time to get better quality eggs. I hope you’re okay, I have also just been through a missed miscarriage. The clinic said ‘Once the miscarriage is resolved, your period will resume in 4-6weeks’ and to get back in touch with them once the miscarriage has resolved. The EPU advised this is when you do a pregnancy test and get a negative. I hope that helps and I’m sorry again, it’s really not easy. I have bad egg quality too. Xx

Thank you for replaying back. I have just web really emotional thinking I only had one embryo and I don’t know what will happen.

My emotions are everywhere.. usually I am a happy person but since this happened I can’t stop crying don’t know if it’s relating to my ivf injections

I know, it’s so so hard. It makes you feel so out of control. Completely understandable to be emotional even if it’s not the drugs. At least you can move forward knowing that implantation can happen. I’m trying to see the positive in that for myself. I definitely started to feel better after coming off the medication so hopefully you will too. Also as mentioned by Bisquisite below, what happens for one cycle doesn’t dictate what happens for the next cycle so there is every chance you will get a different outcome next time. Hopefully you can keep going! Xx

sending strength - have been through similar and it’s very tough. This whole thing feels like a never ending battle.

I’ll share with you some answers to your questions based on what my experience was also doing this at 39.5 yrs last summer. I would say if you’ve just had one cycle, try to remember that the first cycle is more like an exploration to get data to improve next cycles. I don’t know if I have endo or not, tho I do suspect.

First cycle I got nothing to blastocyst stage. I had maybe 6 eggs collected. I was on a lower dose (350 menopur).

Second cycle - menopur increased to max. I got maybe 8 eggs - and from this, two blasts sent for PGT-A testing but both had chromosomal issues which would have led to miscarriage. (As I had two previous miscarriages from natural conception - I wanted to avoid more/know why this keeps happening).

Third cycle - was a bit better more than 10 eggs collected I think and I finally got a couple of PGTA normal embryos (I think I sent 5 blasts to be tested). The best one transferred in December but this didn’t implant. So I can’t say whether any of the embryos from this cycle are successful.

These cycles were all about 6-8 weeks apart. After the second egg retrieval, I started taking all the supplements like NAC and CoQ10 etc (they are all in the book “it starts with the egg”) I want to say that taking these supplements even for a short while may have helped me get better numbers of eggs and embryos on my third collection.

If you can - it is worth it to keep going, I think it’s fair to say there is a chance it could be better next time.

Thank you for replying back. I feel much better reading your message it’s really helpful.

Just been really devastated to be honest but I am looking at the positive side.

I have put on 5 kgs needs to lose that weight to start the next cycle.

going to start my weight loss journey next week as I am just recovering from my miscarriage at the moment.

Hope you are okay and I really hope the cycle works for you too and everyone who is on this site x

[trigger warning: miscarriage]

Best of luck - and remember it’s okay to take it in your stride. My last mc was only at six weeks but I was so happy and elated for those few weeks I knew about it. It was only six weeks so I minimised what I thought the impact of the mc would be (thinking it wasn’t as bad as the 13 week blighted ovum I had previously). But the reality was it had me struggling with emotions for quite a long time - I find the IVF journey inextricably bound to my fears of aging.

Have also recently put on 6kg - no matter what I do I can’t seem to reverse this since turning 40 - just going to focus on avoiding overly restrictive eating…

After my first cycle with no blasts - I was happy just to see some kind of progress - anything - on each subsequent cycle. By third cycle (and having mild OHSS in second cycle) I did start to wonder how much more I could keep going on for… after a year since starting this journey - I am realising it is a marathon and not a sprint…

anyway - I know you didn’t ask for my life story - but sharing just so you know you’re not alone. You got this!
