How to manage probiotic suppositories at the same time as progesterone suppositories?

Hi all!

I love this community, this has become my first go-to community, you are such pro's in supporting and helping each other and then I'm not even living in the UK. So thank you for this community and all of you lovely and strong people out there!

I have been wondering for a while, how does it practically work to take probiotic suppositories when you are at the same time taking progesterone suppositories? Does it work well even though two suppositories are used at the same time? I'm worried that the effect of progesterone will be affected if I mixture it with something else in the same local area so to speak.. 🙈 Not sure if I formulated this question very well.

Hi yellow_cake 😊 I wasn't on progesterone when I was taking the vaginal probiotics. Possibly you could ask your doctor if the progesterone can go rectally so you don't mix them up? I'm on progesterone three times a day and I alternate vag and rec !

I think you’re meant to have finished the vaginal probiotics before a transfer so that you wouldn’t be taking them together. Unless you’ve been specifically told otherwise?

Otherwise you could do the progesterone ones rectally.

I think most ladies stop the probiotics before transfer so before they start the progesterone. I defo did and not something I would take after transfer. Just stick to the transfer meds at that point. You only take vaginal probiotics for a prescribed time (either as prescribed on the pack or by your doctor etc) so just time then for before transfer to be finished if you can or speed the course up/stop it early. hey! I agree with what others have said here. I was advised by my clinic that I would only take probiotics vaginal until I started taking progesterone peasaries. That said, I was unable to find probiotics to take vaginally so am taking oral ones currently. Would you mind sharing what probiotics you are taking? I would like to change mine. Thank you x

I used cyclogest rectally and probiotics vaginally. In fact, cyclogest is absorbed better rectally.

I would support this - TMI but I had to take some rectal suppositories for a haemorrhoid- and was surprised at how much easier and less messy this was compared to cyclogest vaginally (was previously too icked to try cyclogest this way - but actually it was fine).

Given the lengths I’ve gone to to be sure I’m infection free - I think for my next FET I’ll be trying cyclogest rectally (Subject to discussing this approach with the nurses beforehand).

I use and have used a glove to put it in rectally but still obviously wash hands. I would still put probiotic in vaginally first of all.

I used canesflor and flora femme. Then used unscented Vagibiom two weeks after transfer.

Hi! I have asked my clinic the same question!

They said you should not take probiotics pessaries at the same time you take progesterone pessaries as they may block progesterone to be absorbed.

I followed their advice but I took probiotics pessaries almost every day until I started taking progesterone pessaries.

I’ve been taking oral probiotics (Optibac) even after I stopped taking vaginal ones.

Good luck xx

Thank you everyone for all your answers! I haven't even told my dr yet that I an planning on taking probiotics, will ask her the upcoming week, but I got a good idea now on how it works and what to do/not do do after all of your helpful info here! xx
