Positive ureaplasma test

I have been reading about ureaplasma and infertility so paid for an online urine sample test which came back positive. My GP told me that lots of people have ureaplasma and not to waste my money on a test. I really want to get rid of of though and for my partner and I to both have antibiotics.

Has anyone had similar experiences with ureaplasma tests and had it been relatively easy to treat? I have contacted my IVF clinic for advice and will contact my GP too. The online provider offers a consultation and antibiotics but I'd be interested in hearing about other people's experiences with it.

I am currently waiting for an nhs funded hycosy and a consultation with an endometriosis surgeon before I can begin any treatment so I've been trying to do with I can to rule out anything else My endometriosis diagnosis can't as a complete shock and I'm finding it hard to know which advice to trust. Any experiences would be appreciated because I'm feeling confused and alone with it all. Thanks x

Hi Anemonie, I also paid for a urine test which came pack positive for ureaplasma. My GP wasn’t concerned and said it’s part of the body’s flora but my clinic’s consultant said she would prefer to do an endometrial biopsy to rule out I didn’t have it in my uterus- got it done and thankfully I didn’t!! Given you are due to have a consultation with an endometriosis surgeon, it’s defo something you can ask them ☺️

All the best!

Thanks so much I really appreciate your reply! It's a total minefield. Hopefully my surgeon will be able to take a biopsy when he's in there...x

I had it and my fertility doctor gave me a private prescription of antibiotics to treat it (and my partner) as it can be associated with higher rates of miscarriage

Thanks for your reply, that's interesting to know. I would really like to be treated for me peace of mind, so I will find a way to get some antibiotics for me and my partner. Hopefully my IVF clinic will be able to prescribe antibiotics and if not I'll get some from the online GP. X

I'm in the US. My ob started us off on clomid then femara (neither of which worked) but years later I ended up w my 1st positive ever @my second ivf clinic after 12 failed iuis @ my 1st. Point of my story my wonderful ob thought of testing for ureaplasma bc my medicated cycles the 1st thing we tried weren't working. I did come back positive & had to take antibiotics & so did my boyfriend. Low&behold like I sd even tho we were treated nothing else wrked after until the ivf cycle, but def get treated for it, bc she did say that cld effect fertility!

Hi Anemone37, I have or had ureaplasma. Both me and my partner took antibiotics. Look up Jess potter on instagram she took NAC to help rid of ureaplasma as it’s hard to eliminate. Also take probiotics I took vaginal and oral probiotics, as the antibiotics can clear the good vaginal microbiome x
