Seeking Guidance on Obtaining UKAS Accredited Blood Test Reports for IVF

Hello everyone,

I hope you're doing well. I recently initiated my IVF journey at a private clinic and am exploring the possibility of utilising my NHS blood test results to avoid unnecessary expenses. Unfortunately, the private clinic requires specific details, including confirmation of UKAS accreditation for the laboratory where the tests were conducted.

Even if these tests were completed before my initial consultation, the clinic insists on repetition if not performed at a UKAS Accredited laboratory. The challenge is that the blood test reports obtained from the GP do not specify where the tests were conducted. While online research suggests that NHS hospitals are generally UKAS accredited, this information is not explicitly stated in the reports.

I'm reaching out to inquire if anyone has successfully obtained a UKAS accredited blood test report from their GP or navigated a similar situation. Any advice or insights you can share would be immensely appreciated.

I had this, I spoke directly to the consultant about it as the nurse wasn’t helpful and explained my blood tests were done at an nhs fertility clinic and he said it was fine and not to worry about it. In the end we didn’t need it as went elsewhere but I’d definitely think about asking the consultant when you have an appointment with them and see what they say as it really doesn’t make much sense, all the Uk should be using accredited labs surely!

Hi,

I’m a lab manager at a UKAS accredited lab. Do you know the name of the lab that did the analysis, if so their Schedule of Accreditation will be available on the UKAS website. This will in turn list all of the tests that they hold accreditation for.

With UKAS the tests are accredited, a UKAS lab would also generally issue a certificate of analysis that has the UKAS symbol. Possibly different for hospital labs though, I don’t work in that sector.

I conducted the test at the Royal Free Hospital and found the certificate at ukas.com/wp-content/uploads.... Does this imply that HSL is the lab used by the Royal Free?

It certainly implies so. Do your results have any identifying references report ID, lab reference etc. anything that would be unique to you. Obviously don’t share but you could try to phone and see if they can identify your results. I’m not sure if they will help as their customer is the hospital rather than you specifically but it cannot hurt to try.

Speak to your doctor or who took the bloods too.

Hi. I ran into a bit of trouble with this. My private clinic in Harley Street said that the blood screening tests had to be carried out in a UKAS-accredited laboratory. In order to save a bit of money, I asked my GP surgery to organise the tests for me - and I had them carried out at a hospital in NW London. I checked several times, and the hospital lab was UKAS accredited. I also passed the accreditation number to my clinic. However, in the event, my clinic refused to accept the tests - because although the lab was UKAS accredited, the tests themselves weren’t covered by UKAS accreditation?! 🤷🏻‍♀️. Absolutely bizarre. I ended up having to get another set of bloods done in a private lab near Harley Street. Did you have the tests done in the actual GP surgery itself? Surely if you give them a ring, they can let you know which hospital laboratory they sent it to? You can then Google if they are UKAS accredited. But make sure you don’t fall into the same trap as I did…

I had my tests done at the Royal Free Hospital rather than the GP surgery. Any suggestions on how to determine the specific lab they utilised for the tests and whether it holds UKAS accreditation?
