Aneuploid blastocysts

Hi all,

I’ve just had six embryos PGT tested and all were aneuploid. I’m 43 and the embryos are from two different egg collections, one when I was 41 and one when 43. I take all the supplements and eat well. I know egg quality is the single biggest issue for someone my age, but it’s been pretty gutting to get this result and not really know where to go from here.

I’ve previously had three transfers with day three embryos: two fresh embryos resulting in a chemical pregnancy, three frozen with no pregnancy and three fresh with no pregnancy.

My husband and I are not really interested in going the donor egg route.

Has anyone else had a similar situation and seen it worth while to persist/been successful in getting to a euploid embryo?

Thank you!

I’m sorry to hear your news, this whole journey is so tough and often feels never ending. I follow doctor Tim Child on Instagram, and he has a lot of great evidence based information which I find helpful to manage my expectations. I’ve had a few failed transfers, but following his information on there helps me keep going. I watched a panel he did recently with Kings Fertility London, and found this slide attached particularly interesting - it highlights the real numbers game at play with fertility treatment. It entirely depends on how much you’ve got in you to keep going, but I think try and use evidence based information to help you make the decision that’s right for you. Sending you lots of hope and strength xx

Thank you! I do follow Dr Tim Child, but I have not seen this chart before. My husband and I both respond well to data, and while I know my chances from a percentage point of view seeing what that means in terms of number of blastocysts is very helpful. Thanks so much for sharing it. x

Hi there. So sorry to read what you’re going through. I’ve been there and was devastated.

Not knowing your situation I would say it’s great that you had a good number of blastocysts, but yes, at our age there’s a higher likelihood of them being genetically abnormal.

What to do next depends on how you feel really. When I was 42 I did a cycle (my 4th, but first one in which I used PGTA) and all 4 blasts were aneuploid. I was gutted. I have PCOS so had the hope that I could still make blastocysts and I knew I had one more round in me both mentally, physically and financially.

I gave myself around 6 months or so as I ended up with Covid after that cycle and we changed clinics. During that time I overhauled my supplements (was already taking some as recommended by It Starts with the Egg, but think I was taking rubbish quality ones!!). I also did a course of low light laser therapy. It was expensive, but something helped.

I did another cycle and got a euploid and after that ended up doing 2 more back to back cycles and somehow managed some more (got all of these aged 43 turning 44). I’m doing extra testing now prior to transferring.

Cycles can vary a lot from one to the next, so I guess it really depends on whether you feel you have any more in you.

Best wishes with everything. Xx

Thank you! Sorry to hear you are going through something similar. I am taking the supplement brands recommended by It Starts with the Egg, but I've not heard of the laser therapy before and will look into that. Good luck to you!!! x

hi - so sorry to hear your news. I’m 40 and all 4 of my last blastocysts were anaploid.

My doctor has me doing growth hormone for a month before my next cycle, and I’ll take growth hormone during stims. There is some evidence it helps with euploid rate

Hi, just wanted to share my experience. I did 6 egg collection cycles between November 2023 and December 2024. Started when I just turned 43 and finished at 44. The first 4 egg collection cycles resulted in 12 blastocysts in total (2 to 5 per cycle) but all were aneuploid. In the last two egg collections I had 2 blasts each time, the 5th cycle resulted in one segmental mosaic and the last one resulted in one euploid. It was very difficult at times and very draining physically, emotionally and financially but I’m glad I persisted.
