Looking for stories of hope- low AMH IVF success?

Hi everyone! My husband and I have already had a failed round of IVF and, at that time, I had an AMH of 7. I managed to get a good number of eggs and a very healthy number of them fertilised. We transferred one but unfortunately it didn’t implant and we had none for the freezer.

A year on and I have since had surgery to remove grade 4 endometriosis which I didn’t realise I had, and we now know it’s the reason I couldn’t get pregnant naturally. Unfortunately the surgery has caused my AMH to drop to 3 (which is very low for a 35 year old) and we’re looking at doing IVF again. I’d love to hear some stories from people who did IVF with a low AMH- the good and bad!

It’s such a lonely journey and you feel so much guilt for your other half (he is amazing though)- so I thought I’d put this post on here :) Thanks

Hi. I have fortunately known many ladies who have been successful using their own eggs with an AMH of 3 and much lower, so i know it happens. Only a few eggs collected, but it was successful. Im sure others will hop on with their success stories. Try bica.net for counselling and relationship problems while going through treatment. They are good at what they do. Thinking of you. Diane

Hey, I know it’s super stressful and I’m sorry you’re going through this!

my AMH has fluctuated between 2-7. Without stims I only had two follicles.

I’ve only had one egg collection, they got 8 eggs, all fertilised, they all made it to day 5, one was a 4CD so they disposed of it but the other 7 were good quality and frozen.

I’ve just had my first FET and I’m in the 2WW.

Quality is definitely more important than quantity!

All the best x

Thank you so much. Those numbers are definitely promising so thank you for sharing. Good luck and fingers crossed for your TWW x

Hi, my AMH was 5.6pmol in 2023 . I had 4 EC from August 2023 to March 2024- first- 1 blastocyst but a PGT-A abnormal so discarded, second failed collection, third 2 blastocysts but only one euploid embryo so that was frozen. Fourth- 3 blastocysts but one mosaic frozen the others discarded.

I had four natural miscarriages before so we had to PGTA test all of our embryos and as you can see due to low AMH and high FSH I hardly had any eggs after stimms ( I was on high level of hormones too)

We decided to transfer our only good embryo(3AB) in July 2024 (FET with embryo glue) and I’m currently 32 weeks pregnant.

In my case it is true that it only takes one.

You are still young and hopefully have good quality eggs- I was 38 at my last collection but I’ve had miscarriages since 35 so it was quite a low chance to find healthy eggs- I wish you all the best- lots of baby dust- miracles do happen! X

Thank you. This definitely gives me hope! I’ve got my kick-off appointment with my consultant on Tuesday and I’m going to ask about PGTA testing as well because I wonder if we would benefit from that to assess the quality of the embryos. My blastocysts in my first round of IVF weren’t brilliant (3 x grade C) and I’ve had an early miscarriage x

Hi there. A tale of optimism: I got pregnant just before my 44th birthday and have a little boy. I also had low AMH but the real issue for me was poor egg quality due to age. Even if you get a couple of blastocysts each time you do IVF you should get enough viable blastocysts as you are only 35 and have age on your side. I know how hard this journey is. I also felt terrible guilt as the issues were at my end even though my husband was amazing. I wish you the very best of luck. Your time will come. X

I have a AMH of 4.5 and awaiting my period to start stims again and I’m only 30. We did stims in January however unfortunately I only had 1 egg for egg collection so unfortunately they advised me to abandon my cycle and go again with a higher dose of medication and to change my protocol. It’s such a hard journey isn’t it, emotionally, physically and mentally draining! I’ve seen quite alot of success stories on social media with low AMH so I’m trying to stay optimistic. Wishing you all the best if you decide to go again for ivf! My consultant recommended me to take DHEA for egg quality and Co Enzyme Q10.

Hiya. Thank you for sharing your story. I’m in a similar situation and I agree that this journey really does take a lot out of a person. Can you please share what protocol your doctor advised and what dose of meds he recommending? Also what dose of Dhea did he recommend? Did he do any blood test of you lr Dhea-s or testosterone levels before or has he just advised out of experience?

Hiya no problem at all. I think anyone on this journey needs as much support as possible and strangers can turn out to be one of the best supports as they can relate. So with my first cycle (I didn’t get to egg collection) it was a long protocol, buserelin for 16 days then stimulations until day 11 and that’s why then advised to abandon. Now they gave me 2 options doner eggs or short protocol which is just stimulations and up my medication. I was on 350 meriofert for 6 days and then combined that with 150 Gonal F on the 6 day and lowered my dose to 150 Meriofert. This time now on the short protocol they have put me on 450 Meriofert then on the 6th day lowered me down to 225 Meriofert and add Gonal f 225 and ganirelix 0.25mg. Hope I haven’t confused you at all. Can I ask your age and AMH? We also have dual infertility too so going through ICSI.

I haven’t had no further tests for anything they just advised a total of 75mg of DHEA a day so I take X3 25mg daily.

Hiya. I started my ivf journey at age 34 and am now 35. Amh currently 2.8. So it’s low and seems like diminished ovarian reserve. My docs give me no particular advice besides coq-10 around 600mg. My rounds have been short and first cycle they gave me 300 dose of gonal f when my amh was 7 , but unfortunately none of the eggs were good quality. Then at a staggering drop to Amh 2.8 a year later, I got no eggs when I did another cycle with 450 meriofert. I wish I had something positive to say as I know positive stories really do provide hope and encouragement.

Be strong and be positive and try all avenues that you can. End of the day a healthy baby anyhow is the goal.

Going for a third round and just wondering what do people do to prepare before an ivf round.

Hi.

It’s heartbreaking isn’t it. I’m taking 600mg of Co Enzyme Q10 too trying everything to give me the best outcome.

I am really scared on the 450 dose of meriofert as they have warned me this could effect the quality of the eggs but I suppose with only getting one last time they is no other choice than to try it.

I wish you so much baby dust for your next round. Keep strong & Stay positive, I have been trying to change my diet as much as I can, my consultant advised a Mediterranean diet and myself and partner have cut out alcohol & Caffine as much as possible.

Thank you for sharing this. It’s an emotional rollercoaster, that’s for sure. You also feel like your life is on hold too but everyone else seems to be carrying on and progressing with exciting things (and everyone else seems to be getting pregnant left, right and centre!). I really hope this cycle goes well for you- sending lots of positive vibes! x

Oh god tell me about it! It’s one of those isn’t it, happy for you sad for me. Then you fell guilty for feeling like that.

Everything is out on hold, im dying to book a holiday but financially you don’t know if you need the money for another cycle, etc over thinking everything and it just consumes your life.

Thank you so much, wherever you are in your journey, I hope it also works out for you too!

I’m 38 with an AMH of around 2 and about to start ivf short protocol. Worrying myself reading so many things. Gives me a smidge more hope that things may work reading the replies.

Sending you lots of hope 🤞🏼

I can empathise massively with you but definitely low AMH is not the death knell it appears to be. I’m 40, low AMH diagnosed in 2019, and conceived my second pregnancy with amh of 2.6 via IVF there in October (four fertilised eggs, transferred two on a day 3 transfer and had one to freeze). I’d recommend focussing on egg and sperm quality for a while before your next cycle. It’s gonna be fine!!

Thank you so much. Yes, I’ve been focusing on that egg quality and I’m hoping that makes the difference too. Although I’ve nearly maxed out my credit card buying supplements because they’re so expensive and I’m taking so many!!!! If there’s anything specific you can share which you think helped with your egg quality then I’d appreciate it :) x

Low amh is such a tough pill to swallow but it can happen! Mine was 1.4 as of Nov 2023 so could be much lower by now and I'm 37 so age not ideal in terms of egg quality. We've had 3 egg collections so far each only getting a few eggs each time and resulting in only 1 embryo for transfer which they have popped back in early at either day 3 or 2. The first two cycles failed unfortunately.

This third cycle we literally only collected one egg, which fertilised using icsi and has gone on to implant successfully and I'm currently 7 weeks pregnant with identical twins! Shock of the century and while it's early days for us, I wanted to share this positive story along with everyone else. It's unfair (and costly!) how many collections people with low amh have to go through but it can just take 1 egg and quality is important so i agree with the recommendations on vitamins etc. Sometimes it can just take time to find the right one. Best of luck to you x
