Just had my baseline scan for long protocol ivf and she said I had 7 follicles and made me feel like it was very unlikely that we would get even 1 embryo out of it. I asked if further cycles would get better outcomes and she said it was likely to be the same. When I said I felt down about it, she changed her tune and said I had a great shot and they see great results even in women with lower amh than me..
I'm not sure what to think, my amh is 3.6 and I'm 38 years old.
Any success stories would be lovely to hear, I feel deflated and like I want to cry.
To top it off, a family member just announced their pregnancy yesterday.

Hi. I have been doing this for many years and have seen lots of subbexxex with even lower AMH readings. Of course non of this is predictable but worth a go. Just wishing you all the best. Diane
Try to relax from here. Worrying isn’t going to change the outcome. Baseline scan isn’t everything and more follicles can appear, even if they don’t. The result of this round is out of your hands? What helped me when I was hopeless ( Amh 2.2 and fsh sky high) was to focus on what I really could do , such as diet and supplements x
My numbers were a bit different to yours and lots of our problems down to male factor, but one of my work colleagues had an amh of 1.2 and 5 follicles on scan. They prepared her for the worst but got one good egg, it progressed to a great blastocyst and she's now 24 weeks pregnant.
I think although the odds can sometimes feel stacked, it does only take one good embryo. I like the mantra expect the worst and hope for the best.
hi, don’t feel down, egg quality is more important than quantity and you are the right side of 40.
I had a similar number of follicles to you and got a baby. Took me 3 cycles but I was older than you (41) so I think you still have every chance of it working.
It comes down to quality and you only need one good egg, so keep your spirits up and best of luck xx
I had amh of 3.4pmol at 37 two failed ivf rounds later and got pregnant age 40 on the first natural cycle after the failed ivf. We just welcomed a perfect baby boy on Sept 23rd this year. Id recommend mira ovulation tracker and fertilily conception cups. Coq10 ubiquinol life extension brand and dhea tho you need dhea-s and testosterone bloods for that. Also mediterranean diet magnesium. Omega 3 and vit d. Good exercise regime also ask about drugs like letrozole and clomid. All the best. Message me if i can be of help. X
I did IVF a year ago, got 5 eggs which ended up with one day 5 blastocyst and one day 6 blastocyst. Fresh transfer of the day 5 ended in a miscarriage unfortunately 💔 but a frozen transfer of the day 6 in March and I sit here nearly 35 weeks pregnant.
My clinic were honest about the likelihood of numbers etc but were never discouraging.
But I must say, all 5 eggs were mature. I also did the long protocol. But I also think my egg quality came down to all the lifestyle changes I had made.
My AMH was 6.7 at 33 years old and on my second fresh cycle I conceived my almost 5 year old and there were only 6 eggs collected from that cycle, I was 34 when I gave birth. I had my AMH tested the following year and it was 4.0. The next fresh cycle I produced 13 eggs and I gave birth to my youngest who is 3 and a half years old, 17 months later. I felt deflated when I heard my AMH but I had 2 children from 3 cycles and we actually have 4 lower grade frozen embroyos still. Please do not get hung on the number, there's always a chance!
I had an amh of 4 when I was 38 (4yrs ago). My successful cycle which was 3rd round. From memory. I had 7 follicles, 4 eggs, 2 fertilised, 1 made it to transfer. My daughter is 3. I’ve not done a long protocol.
My amh, as of last year is 2. I’m still producing follicles & eggs. Just haven’t had an embryo stick for a successful pregnancy (3 early losses and a miscarriage)
Oh lovely - I know this feeling all too well. I know it’s easier said than done, but try not to get down about the numbers! It REALLY only takes one. I’m sitting in front of my 7 month old son typing this, and my AMH and follicle count were nearly identical to yours. After my egg collection I was beside myself as only got 6 eggs, and the woman next door to me got 14. I ended up with two embryos, and one is my son! If you do need another round following this one (positive vibes that you don’t though!), I highly recommend Impryl and COQ10 supplements. They actually improved my follicle count and AMH - which I didn’t know was possible! And COQ10 makes sure the small batch of eggs that we do have are good quality. Sending you lots of love and luck!
hi, my AMH was 2.9 at age 33. I did 9 rounds of IVF and the most I ever got was 6 eggs but some rounds 1 or none. However I now have 2 children. Focus on quality not quantity. Look after yourself and keep healthy. Wishing you lots of luck x
Oh, I had same AMH at 36 with 5 follicles in baseline then with the highest amount of meds that the NHS provide, I managed to have 7 follicles after stimulation. Got 7eggs! 6 mature, 4 fertilised, one 5day blast -2BB. I was devastated the whole journey. The TWW was miserable thinking of this poorly graded embryo being my only hope before an expensive journey. But it’s all a luck game. I currently have my 5 week old boob lover in my arms!
Reason for sharing is that grasping on to the numbers felt like the only way to understand and predict what may or may not happen in a journey of the complete unknown. But the cheesy truth is, you only need one to succeed and the numbers and grading is not all that helpful. People going through IVF have already had a journey so we are not likely to “relax” but please do find your best distractions and allow the numbers and headings to be considered by the practitioners. Good luck! Your shot is as good if not better than most of ours with babes in arms 🌸🌸🌸🌸
We started IVF in 2022, was told I have very low AMH (amongst many other issues) and unlikely to get any eggs, the doctor basically told me I'd have close to zero chance of having a baby; long story short we got 2 BB embryos, and I'm holding my 5 month old girl in my arms right now.
IVF can be a really dark and lonely journey at times, so I hope this gives you some hope to hold on to!
Hey love, they started me on the highest dose of menopur and on long protocol ivf and my ovaries responded a little too well, I ended up with 32 follicles and so to avoid OSS we had to stop my cycle before egg retrieval.
Just waiting for January to start another cycle but will be short protocol this time!
Good luck for yours, don't be disheartened, anything can happen at this point x
