CD2 or CD3 for first scan before stim

Does anyone know which day of cycle is best to have the first ultrasound scan before starting stim, is it day 2 or day 3 or it doesn’t make much difference?

would appreciate if you could share your thoughts or based on your own experience what the clinics have advised ?

Thank you

I used to have them on day 2. Sometimes day 1. I have a short follicular phase ( I ovulate on day 9 or 10 most of the times) . My NHS clinic said to aim for day 2 but the clinic abroad said it didn't matter.

thank you I also have short follicular phase I ovulate on day 10, have you always been like that? Mine has become short just after a recent MC, I am 35.

I am so sorry for your loss.

To be honest I can't remember what it was like when I was younger. I am 41 now. I was on the contraceptive pill from 27 to 34 to manage pain and symptoms, not for contraception. Since I came off it my cycles were like this. First few months all over the place but when they settled they were short, ovulation on day 9 or 10. Although I felt it was related none of the doctors I have seen considered it a reason for my fertility problems.

As for the baseline scan or starting stimulation I found that on day 3 meant that in most cases I had a dominant follicle aalready.which lead to cancellations. So for most cycles I was put on the combined contraceptive to 'calm the ovaries down' but not shut them down like with prostap, and for other cycles I was put on estrogen priming. Estrogen priming did not work at all for me.

Wow that’s really good to know because I have no idea how I would be!

I have read that having shorter cycles is a sign of menopause as cycles start to get shorter and then eventually stop which really scared me!

I’m guessing in our cases then it’s better to have earlier scans but I’m not entirely sure what’s the purpose of initial scan anyway.

Thank you so much for sharing it’s very helpful to know x

Everyone responds differently to each protocol. So you might not have the same issues as me.

I heard that about menopause too but so far it hasn't happened for me.

The baseline scan is to check ovaries and lining before stimulation, to ensure you are good to go; lining needs to be on the thin side ( each clinic follows their own guidelines about what they consider thin enough, and will thicken with stimulation to get ready for transfer)and ovaries with enough follicles. They also check about cysts, polyps etc.
