After 2 unsuccessful cycles in the uk and not the best care I’m considering treatment in Spain.
Has anyone got any experience with treatment in Spain?
My partner is Spanish and has a home in Marbella so we were hoping to find a clinic close to there.
We have looked at a few and wondering if anyone has experience of ovo clinic?
They have a few in Spain and offer packages with a refund if you are not successful.
I am 42 and partner 40 I have low amh and follicle count. So wanted to give it another 1 or 2 goes with my own eggs before moving on to donation if needed.
I have no idea how people make it work with the travel and medications but I guess thats what we need to look into once we have more of an idea of a clinic we want to use.
Any help or advise would be welcome.
Thanks x

Hi there! I haven’t used this clinic but I’m also Spanish and have just returned from Barcelona after doing a cycle with my own eggs. Like you, I’ve had 2 unsuccessful cycles in the Uk and the care has just been appalling.
I was there for two weeks (at my parents’) as I wanted to take a break from work and the horrible weather lol and be close to my clinic, but if I needed to do it again I would probably fly the day before my first scan. In terms of meds, I bought them in Spain (so much cheaper than the Uk btw) but you could also buy them in the UK and travel with them.
I obvs can’t speak for all Spanish clinics but the care we received from ours has been amazing from setting up regular videocalls with our consultant, having all my emails answered quickly, and just having a team that has looked at our case in detail and gone above and beyond.
Do your research on the clinic(s) but I would 100% go to Spain ☺️
Thanks so much for your lovely message. I wish you lots of luck as well.
I’m sorry you have been in a similar situation to me with the care you received. I wish I had gone to Spain now in the first place . My boyfriend kept telling me but I was worried about work and all the travelling and how we could make it work. Hindsight is a wonderful thing!
It sounds like you have had a wonderful experience and I feel that’s what I need moving forward.
Yes I need to do some research and find a fabulous clinic. I just don’t know where to start as I’m so worried we end up in a similar situation to now.
I hopefully we can find the right clinic and be as happy as you are with your treatment and care in Spain.
Not sure if it’s allowed but if you can message me directly/private message I would love to have a recommendation.
Thanks so much for your response. Wishing you the best x
hello, I am French and I live in Marbella. I have an excellent clinic and doctor here that I can recommend. I talked to pretty much all of them in Marbella and used two of them. If you would like to talk do not hesitate to PM.
Hello, we are using a clinic in Barcelona. In all honesty- wish we had moved to having ivf abroad sooner. (Many reasons, can dm you). For our treatment, we only need to visit the clinic twice. Tbh...could do there and back in same day, definately in 2 days. Then have a couple of scans here (private scan centre).
On our first visit we got some medications out there and they gave us a letter to bring back.
I needed extra so they sent a prescription to stork who delivered the rest. You can get prescriptions changed (for a fee around £35) with cherish uk then take to asda or somewhere but tbh...some of my meds I couldn't get through asda so was easier to just do through stork as they dealt directly with clinic.
We used cheap flights and a hotel nearby who gave discount if a patient of clinic. The cycle, along with meds, uk scans at extra cost (would be part of cycle if done at clinic) and travel etc is no more than a cycle here for us. Communication with clinic has been better than here, same person, doctors and had zero consultation charges, more in depth pre examinations and bloods etc too. Clinic we chose is great, regardless of outcome.
No recommendations for Spain sorry. We however moved our treatment from U.K. to Athens. I understand how the logistics can feel overwhelming.
In the u.k. everything is arranged for you.. scans, meds, blood appointments etc etc. Going abroad you have to arrange that yourself plus find accommodation, book flights..
However, the extra work is 1000% worth it. The care abroad is miles better than the u.k.
Once you choose a clinic see if they have a facebook support group.. there will be loads of advice on there
hola ! I now live in Mallorca and a real fab clinic in Palma. You’ll see if you google search it has one in Alicante too. My sis in law did donor at this clinic and she lives in UK and had success ! I also think the drugs are cheaper !
I used a clinic in Alicante but they have branches elsewhere in Spain too. Found it to be great. Very thorough. Had success last year and now have a 9 month year old! We used DD. Please feel free to pm me. Also would say I bought medication in Spain and was much cheaper. Pharmacy give you a letter for the airport but I never had any problems. Clinic in Spain was linked with one here so they did all scans, bloods etc. Xx
Another 1m percent vote for Spain here!!! I did a donor refund guarantee programme at my clinic in Alicante at age 47 l, and 18 months later i’m sat feeding my 6 week old.
Everything was so much better than in the uk. Experience, research, communication, treatment, cost - even once adding travel etc.
A bit more organisation with travel, scans etc but totally doable and 💯 worth it.
Feel free to pm if you want to know clinic or any other questions.
hi I had donor egg IVF in Alicante, Spain. I started in 2015 and my son was born in 2017, all in all it took 20 months from starting to his birth and i had two full rounds with frozen transfers. It would have been quicker but we’re both teachers so we had to cycle in school holidays. The care we had was excellent and it was surprisingly easy. I found a scanning clinic here who did all my scans to check womb lining etc and later did my intralipids. I then emailed the reports to IB. I had an English speaking assistant who I spoke to regularly and I had Skype calls with the doctor. They sent me Spanish prescriptions which I then got rewritten by a nurse prescriber at the scanning clinic and I got all my meds at cost price from Asda. The clinic was excellent and we got a far more individualised protocol in Spain for similar money to what we’d paid for a big standard cycle in UK.
Hello, this popped up in my emails so wanted to see the responses. I too am considering Spain but using Donor eggs after 2 failed double blastocyst transfers done by a clinic in the UK. The places which have been recommended are in Madrid and Alicante and have very short waiting lists compared to UK (6 to 8 months in UK), but the cost is much more. So bit of a catch 22 situation whether to pay (more) money or wait for the opportunity in the UK. I just turned 44 and no longer covered by fertility program I signed up to, as had 2 failed fresh cycles (their small print caught me out with this!) Any words of advice greatly appreciated xx
Have you checked the Egg Donation Friends website? It has a really good summary on the most popular countries for egg donation and approx costs. Spain looks costly when compared to say Greece or Poland, but it’s definitely cheaper than the UK (and more advanced in IVF research for sure). Several clinics in Spain also offer a refunding programme (as DoodleBug23 has mentioned her clinic did) so worth asking about these!
The clinics in bcn, Madrid and Alicante all are coming up time and time again so I’m definitely going to look into them. The care seems much better than the uk from what I have heard and regardless of the outcome I guess we all want to know we have done everything possible and had every angel covered during treatment.
Wishing you the very best with your decision too x
I’m also currently with a clinic in Spain - and would 💯 % recommend - but it looks like you’ve a fair few others who are too. Feel free to PM if beneficial x
hi I also had a bad experience in uk with nhs treatment. So went to a clinic in Alicante. The clinic is brilliant they have English speaking doctors. We bought the medication in Spain and brought it home. No issues in the airport and they gave us a letter in Spanish incase the medication was questioned. Flights were cheap and just made a holiday out of it too. I’m currently 20 weeks pregnant.
