Just wondering if anyone can tell me a bit about their experience of the ivf process in Spain. We are due to fly out in just over two weeks time for our initial appointment and to get medications etc. On our previous two rounds in the U.K. it has been a long process from those initial consultations to starting treatment, using norethisterone from day 21 to make the timing of the bleed predictable then starting stimulation on day 2 of the next cycle etc. I just wondered if anyone could tell me if similar applies for Spain, or do they tend to avoid the norethisterone part and just go straight in at the start of the next cycle? I’ll probably get these answers in our first consultation but just wondering what sort of timescale we might be working on.
Thanks in advance for any info
Xx

Hi Saraht23 we are doing our treatment in Spain as well, but I cannot answer your question because our first cycle was with donated eggs and it failed. (I got my bloot test result the day before yesterday and it was a BFN). I am struggling with the thought of doing our next cycle with my own eggs (I am 43 now and my husband 40). So I still don't have the experience with the protocol for egg retrieval, not even sure if it's wise to try it on my age, or if our doctor will allow me.
But if you have any other question about treatment in Spain I can answer, just send me a PM.
Oh no! I’m so sorry to hear that about your cycle, I’ll be thinking of you lots. I’m sure it’s a difficult time for you so thank you so much for taking the time to reply to me. I know I wouldn’t be that strong and selfless after a failed cycle. Take care of yourself. And wishing you the best of luck for your next treatment xx
I am doing my treatment in Spain ( actually on my way now for my 4th IVF cycle). What you are asking is actually to have a short protocol instead of long if I understood it right. Any clinic can offer you that if this is what you want to do.
I am doing long protocol I am not finding difficult to do it even abroad. You are down regulating at home and on your 2nd day of cycle you can fly to Spain. If you don’t want to wait another month then speak with the clinic and they will arrange for you ❤️
I had short protocol twice in the U.K. with good response so would be surprised if they went to long protocol but suppose I should just try to be more patient and see what they say when we get there.
We’re having treatment due to male factor but going to use donor sperm this time so hopefully will get a much higher fertilisation rate and some healthy embryos. We had total fertilisation failure cycle 1 then Cycle 2 low fertilisation and only one decent blastocyst at day 5 which unfortunately ended in MMC at 9 weeks.
Thank you for taking the time to reply. Wishing you the best of luck for this cycle 🤞🏼 Xx
I’m doing in Spain as well , donor one, I was starting on day 2 of my period to take progynova for 10-12 days then scan and if it was ok adding the progesterone for 5 days , on day 5 I had the transfer ( failed one)
