Hi. I've just had my first egg retrieval and got 33 eggs. Which initially I thought was good news but they have said as it's so high I'm at serious risk of OHSS so it has to be a freeze all. I'm so disappointed as I had it in my head we would be transferring a fresh cycle next week. Then I've seen high egg count doesn't mean they are good quality as too high can mean less good ones.
Additionally my partner managed to contaminate his sample so they got him to do another one which obviously has less content as pretty much straight after the first one, so now we have to have icsi as not enough sperm in the second sample - another cost.
Very mixed emotions. I know neither of these things are bad really in the grand scheme of IVF and sorry if I sound ungrateful as I know we still have a good chance this cycle yet but two problems encountered at once has really wobbled me this morning.
Has anyone any experience of such high egg count? Xx

unless you have a history of high count and low quality, there is nothing to worry about. I did one round only and they collected 101 ovocytes (I have PCOS). It resulted in 65 embryos, and over 35 J5. I have obviously never done another round again as I will never need one. I PGD ed 15 embryos, 11 came back euploid. All my transfers are made out of this PGD-ed “sample” of 11 and everything is perfect. I have three kids total, 2 of which come from this list (1 conceived naturally) and I am doing a fourth transfer now. It is not because you have a high count that the quality is low.
Hi isittolate, I had my first egg collection in July and I knew there was a good chance I'd have a freeze all due to a high chance of developing OHSS. I had 64 eggs collected, 35 fertilised, 30 embryos developed, 25 blastocysts developed and out of these we were able to freeze 14 top grades in total. In September I had my first frozen transfer and I'm incredibly lucky to say that I'm currently 10 weeks 2 days pregnant. I really hope this gives you some reassurance and I'm wishing you all the luck in the world on your journey. Xx
