how many embryo are enough ?

hi all, have been overthinking this for many months so I’d like to post here.

Due to personal circumstances I decided this year to do 2 EC (I have low AMH although AFC seemed ok). We have never tried for a child but we could not plan for a family this year and that gave me a lot of anxiety hence why i pushed for EC. In the end we got 5 blast Day 5 (2x5AA,3x3AA) currently frozen. At time of EC I was 36.10 yrs and 37.2 yrs.

Would you feel it’s a good enough shot / chance or should I plan another EC? Ideally we would like to try next year but might be challenging.

Should I sleep a bit more reassured? We haven’t tested them btw.

Appreciate your views.

It’s so hard to predict the outcome. Percentage wise you probably have a reasonable chance but in reality all of them could work or none of them could work. The grading can give an indication but high grade embryos can fail and lower grades can be successful. And if you’ve never ttc you could find you can conceive naturally anyway.

Are the challenges something that can be resolved? If a child is something you both want with your ages I’d try not to delay things as much as possible.

Totally agree on just trying but we are living in 2 different countries and I’m alone in Uk ;) a bit challenging and due to work can’t commute much so yes it takes time to plan and resolve this one.

Oh that must be tough to manage. Hope it all works out, sending lots of luck 🤞

Hi. 3-5 per round would be excellent with a low AMH they will do their best for you, I’m sure. Diane

Are you able to have them pgta tested? We did thaw a frozen blastocyst and have it tested and re-froze it. This way you will know how many are genetically viable. Of course there’s a very small risk that some might not survive the thawing process. Knowing how many are viable might help you decide if you’d like to go through the egg collection process again. I wish you the best of luck. x

We also did ivf at 36 and ended up with 7 embryos but one failed to thaw and out of the 6, only one worked. If i could go back in time i would have definitely done another egg retrieval. Others get 3 kids out of six embryos, others one and others none.

it’s so hard to say- our first round at age 37 we got 6 embryos and embryo 4 was our little boy. I’ve then did 5 more collections between age 40-42) and transferred a total of 10 embryos and embryo number 10 has so far worked so it could be you have enough now or you might need another round. The key thing is to start transferring them as soon as you can 🤗 xx

There’s really no answer to this.

Someone could have luck with one, others it takes ten.

I think you should do what you feel comfortable with. If you feel another EC and a few more embryos would ease your mind then that might be the best option for you.

I believe the rates are 20% chance per embryo so you have good odds with 5.

Best of luck 🙌💫

In my opinion it is enough. You are still jung and do not know if it will work naturally. I would definetly not test them anymore as it make the embryos weaker. PGT testing show chromosomal problems but the embryo still can have development issues. When you plan to have a baby?

Hopefully next year .. I’d like to try naturally first and see how it goes. I know age is always against waiting :)
