Hey, has anyone asked their doctor for help with weight loss to get to the IVF target weight? If so, what kind of help did they give? Just debating whether it's worth speaking to them or continue to try on my own
Weight Loss for IVF: Hey, has anyone... - Fertility Network UK
Weight Loss for IVF
My GP surgery has a health and wellbeing coach and they gave tips/ advice (recommended books like ‘fast like a girl’) and could weigh me if I wanted. I’d already put together my own plan & had lost the majority of the weight I needed to, but I did end up booking in a couple of times to get weighed which was helpful for me to stick to my target and to have my weight recorded on my NHS records. They were really supportive - I’d never heard of the role before.
My GP was super helpful. Regular appointments, weight check ins and referred to a weight loss program (more behavioural than being weighed so not like slimming world, called “Second Nature”). Lost the 12kg in 3 / 4 months then was referred to fertility clinic.
Also did significant diet changes. Went very low carb. Lots of exercise. More maintenance now but it lost the weight quickly. Was desperate for referral to fertility clinic so incentive to not eat the cakes!
I’d say it is worth speaking to them- ours gave us a free gym pass for 3 months then half price for the next 3 months and some good tips etc too! I think they appreciate anyone really trying to lose weight and they have lots of resources available so I’m sure they would share them with you 🤗 xx
Hey i had to loose 40lbs to qualify for nhs ivf funding. Only things that worked for me was getting a personal trainer because paying for it meant I had to go! Also keto diet and mediterranean style diet. Also did protein shakes instead of breakfast. Replaced fibre with psyllium husk capsules. X
