I would like your thoughts or views on something. I have my hospital appointment in two weeks time and I am trying soo hard since May (working out 5 days a week and deit) I have managed to decrease my weight from 86 to 78. however, I feel as my weight is stuck and I am stressing out since for IVF my weight needs to be 77kg.
For the last two weeks my weight is stuck to 78-79. I am losing soo many inches… don’t understand what else I can do.. I am a size 12 top and 14 in jeans
Are they really strict if I am 78kg.
please help and advise.. any tips would be useful…

It's all down to BMI and for most NHS clinics you need to be 29.9 or under. Can I ask what your diet like? I would reduce your calories because that's how would lose weight quickly.
You need change things up a bit. If your goal is weight loss you can easily achieve this through calorie deficit just until your appointment. Don't do any weight training because you will build muscle but you will weigh more (you will lose inches but not on the scales). Increase your protein. When you are weighed, take a layer of clothing off which will help. Don't eat breakfast before going to your appointment. This is the unhealthy way but only for 2 weeks.
Hi. Well first of all you have done extremely. Well. We often reach a Sri cking point, but just keep going, you’re nearly there. Clinics, especially NHS ones can be insistent. We’ve got a weight loss club on our website, so do have a look. Good luck. Diane
Thank you for your email. So my height is about 5’4 and my weight is 78 today.. what happens if my weight is 77.8 would I need to wait another few months… plus my ages is 38 too and going to be 39 next year.. feel as the clock is ticking for me…
I used the app My Fitness Pal and it really helped me lose weight fairly quickly and helped me understand where the calories were coming from. I still use it now (the free version works fine) and it motivates me to exercise as you can link to your fitness apps and it works out your calorie balance for you x
they are really strict in my experience. Maybe try not working out so much for a few days before the appointment time (as muscle actually weighs more than fat) and look at how to lose any water retention etc for those few days instead to get below the BMI I have no concept of what 1kg is but that helped me lose a couple of lbs to get me under. Ps the bmi stuff is ridiculous as your situation proves you are losing inches but not weight which is in a healthy way and yet doesn’t tick the BMI box! You defo need to be under though but you have time and you are nearly there! Xx
So that is a BMI of 29.5 so under the 30 defo keep going to keep it under but you have done the hard bit! I basically cut back the water the day before and morning of and wore light clothes and sneaked under on my successful nhs round
Oh I feel your pain, I was in the exact same position! My NHS clinic was so strict. A nurse even told me to loose a few extra pounds to get way under the 29.9, to account for potentially being weighed in a different room next time and the weight of clothes, so the pressure was on! I ended up being super strict for the last week, swopped work outs to swimming and sauna and for the last few days I massively reduced food and water intake. It wasn't healthy and I wouldn't recommend it, but it was the only way to get me comfortably under. I absolutely hate BMI, the NHS needs a better measure for "health" because it certainly isn't that. I was shocked at the nurse on my weigh day too, she congratulated me on loosing the weight in 6 weeks and was asking for tips! She was shocked I had managed to do it in the timeframe, yet they gave me the deadline, why give it to me if they thought it wasn't possible?! Do they not know the lengths women will go with IVF?! Anyway, I could talk about this all day haha! Good luck xx
Your BMI at 5’4” and 78kg is 29.5. This is within the BMI range even for NHS treatment. So as you are now, you are ok. Try and focus on eating healthily with plenty of nutrients for egg quality. Starving yourself can have detrimental effects on your menstrual cycle and affect ovulation as well as on your resilience and mental strength which you will need for your ongoing treatment. Good luck to you and look after yourself x
I had my appointment yesterday and was 2lb too heavy. Most of it is water due to it being close to the start of my period and being fully dressed at the time. I weigh naked first thing in the morning. I suppose I could send them a picture of the weight on the scales whilst I’m stood on them, but the scales are a bit reflective and no-one wants to see that! 😂
I had a similar experience my 1st time. I had a cold and was feeling really bloated and rubbish. I think I also looked down at the scales and wasn't aware that the scales measured my height at the same time, so it meant I was measured too short which made my bmi higher. So my advice is to stand tall as you can!
Hey, sorry to hear you are having a tough time with this. Sounds like you are doing super well! 💪🏻
Have you tried the keto diet, it’s a bit like Atkinson where you do high protein and low/no carbs. I accidentally did this as I forgot my carbs for a few days and was drinking lots of protein shakes and inadvertently lost 2-3kg in a couple of days. This was mainly water weight as when I started eating carbs it came straight back on, but might help you get over the line? It’s not something I would normally recommend as I had bad headaches, felt tired, didn’t sleep well and had weird dreams but the short term weight loss was good.
Hi, I lost 10kg just by walking and calorie counting. 1,000 calories per day is too low. Working out 5 days a week will exhaust you and weights won't gain muscle unless you are doing it over a sustained period of time, really lifting heavy and eating heaps of protein. So first thing take a breath. You are almost at the expected weight. Stress won't help. Google basal metabolic calculator. Theres heaps of free ones. Put in your height, weight etc. It'll tell you how many calories your body needs per day to function without even moving. If you just sat down all day and didn't move, this calculator will tell you how many calories your body needs to survive healthily. For me I'm 1350 calories. I'm 5ft3. Then all I do is eat that and move more. The more I move the more of a calorie deficit in creating. If you want to speed it up then subtract a maximum of 100 calories. So for me I'd be 1250. That's still low though. I walk around 16-17,000 steps a day and I'm losing 0.15th of a kilo per day so around 1 kilo every week. You need to switch it up as your body becomes used to what you are doing. The first 5-6 kilos usually drop.off and then it's harder because your body plateaus. So walk, use some dumbbells if you want but don't kill yourself at the gym. Other thing to do is cut down on bread, rice, starchy carbs and processed foods. I'm not saying cut them out. You want to enjoy life but just reduce and definitely get my fitness pal. I use this everyday to log the food I eat. So simple youn scan the barcodes. Stick to that. It's a pain weighing out your food but trust me if you stick to your calories and move more, it'll work. Drink lots of water, cut out sugary drinks including orange juice, limit caffeine. You got this!! Good luck xx
