I was in same position. Nothing seemed to work but i kept being told to come back so i had to do something, the most annoying time was when i thought I'd got my BMI down the calc I'd used at home was 1cm taller (!). Height makes more of a difference so stand as tall as you can when they measure you!!! In the end, i followed the Fast 800 but maxed out on protein so eggs or greek yog for bfast, salad for lunch and something like grilled chicken and veg in evening. Treat was 1 biscuit or some fruit and yog... tracked all the calories. It was hard work and I'm not sure its the healthiest diet long term as 800 cals is not much but it did come off. Good luck!

I had to loose weight to get my BMI lower for IVF.

I read Adam Balens fertility guide book and found the information around food very interesting. The bits I took away - avoid any sudden crash diets/dropping to low calories as this sends your body into a panic mode, when the body doesn't have enough energy from food to sustain what it needs it will stop providing energy to the none essential organs. One of the first being reproductive... So yes you may get to your BMI to start treatment but the getting there could be of further detriment to your fertility. Avoid low fat versions of things as these usually have chemical substitutes which can be disruptors.

I lost weight by trying to drink water first whenever I felt hungry, having more veg/fruit on my plate and using whole fat products but smaller amount. Protein is certainly key.

I made the effort to walk or swim 4 mornings a week and do a few gym classes per week, but really calories wise the walk burnt the same so don't throw yourself into classes if it's not for you.

I tried to go for a 10min walk outside or even just doing house jobs as soon as I finished by meal, supposedly it helps with metabolism and in that time and with movement it would allow my body to start to feel full so I avoided something sweet straight after a meal.

It certainly wasn't always easy, there were some evenings I'd be in bed at 8pm so stop myself running to the shop for chocolate ha but when you see them number go down and you realise you are closer to your dream then it defo feels more manageable

Good luck x

I found intermittent fasting the quickest way to lose weight. I only eat in a 8 hour window then fast for 16 hours. In fast you can't have calories so no food at all or drinks with milk. Fruit tea, black tea or coffee, water, zero calorie squash etc are all OK. I've lost 1stone in 3 weeks. Feel a lot better as well. Have a read up on it xx

It depends how much you need to lose and how fast. I managed to lose a stone in 4 months for my wedding by switching to two weetabix or porridge (no sugar or honey) for breakfast, salad plus eggs but no carbs and a normal dinner with carbs but trying to eat less of it than I normally would and having a banana mid morning and a banana mid afternoon and no other snacks. At weekends I would still go out for dinner with my fiance but choose the fish dish (usually lowest calories) and treat myself to a glass of wine or gin and slimline tonic. Additionally, I got off the tube a stop before the nearest station to work and walked an extra 25 mins to the office and saw a personal trainer at the gym twice a week. It was a healthier way to lose weight than some of the crash diets and because I had a target date and goal it was easier knowing I wa working towards something. Also, crash diets or diets where you cut protein and/or don't eat healthily may impact on egg quality so prob not advisable unless you need to shed a lot in order to get down to the weight they will let you do IVF at. Personally I think it is outrageously unfair that they put a BMI limit on IVF. I know a few larger ladies who have had absolutely no problem getting pregnant and plenty of size 10 to 12 women who have. It's the same with age limit. They should offer you advice if they think something is likely to affect your chances but it should be up to you whether you want to go for it anyway in my opinion!
