I’ve been diagnosed with factor V Leiden mutation and I went to see a haematologist last year privately to advise on how to take blood thinners( if I get pregnant naturally). Since then we have started on our ivf journey and the clinic we are with will provide prescription up to 12 week of pregnancy. I was told I need to get further prescription from my GP so I had my appointment last Friday where I provided a letter from the haematologist and the gp said she needs to discuss my case with ‘their’ haematologists because she cannot just prescribe it to me. I don’t really understand why to be honest as the letter I got privately from the haematologist explains clearly my case and the advice- I had it done here in the UK in an NHS hospital I just paid privately for it.
I am now 5wks pregnant and worried the GP won’t prescribe it. I still have a lot of time to get it sorted but I wanted to know if anyone managed to get a prescription privately? If everything else fails I would like to explore this option as I already had 4 miscarriages. Thank you xxxx

Thank you I will speak to the midwife, good idea. I already got in touch with the specialist and they said I need to speak to the GP. Feels a bit like going on circles but midwife is a good idea thank you for your advice!
My GP was good about it in the end, but took a lot of back and forth.
Don't be afraid to be blunt with people about the outcomes if you don't get the medication needed. I found that usually offered the 'necessary perspective' to get things done!
Hi there, firstly I’m so sorry to hear about your miscarriages; I know how difficult this is.
I also have a double (homozygous) genetic mitigation for the F2 Prothrombin gene so I’ve been put on clexane! I am also 5wks+5 from a frozen embryo transfer and I get my injections prescribed from my heamotologist on NHS. I’ve never needed to pay the clinic privately as she just prescribes them when I need them. I was advised by my clinic to start them two weeks before the frozen transfer because I was on oestrogen and progesterone before the transfer which is considered HRT .
For my fresh transfer before this one, I was asked to take click sign at embryo transfer and onwards.
In this situation, I am not sure why the GP cannot just prescribe the blood thinners, but it might be to do with having to have the haematologist through the NHS agree it. Is there any way for you to phone the haematology department at your nearest NHS hospital and speak to someone? that’s what I did initially? Hopefully you get it sorted! Wishing you all the best. X
