AMH Fluctuations

I had my AMH tested last July and it was 5pmol. I had it tested this month and it's 8.5pmol. Has anyone seen an increase like this?

Took me by surprise today. I felt under pressure last year to get a move on with IVF but they've failed so far.

Hi Greenleaves - yes. I had an AMH of 12.07pmol in March, had a bad case of COVID in May, poor response to stims in June (7 follicles showing and only 2 grew in only one ovary) so abandoned that cycle after the clinic tested my AMH again given my poor response which showed it had dropped down to 2pmol. Roll on July I had it tested again to see if 2 the new normal and it's now 7.06pmol. So if you were ill or recovering from flu, bad cold, COVID etc it could have affected your AMH in the first test. Plus I have seen fertility drs on Instagram insisting you can improve it through diet, etc, so maybe whatever you've been doing is working :) xx

Hi, has your follicle count increased aswell?

Hi, AMH definitely fluctuates, just like most hormones on any given cycle. I think fertility docs are just starting to realise now that’s it’s not a stable as they once thought. It’s not an indicator at all of someone’s natural ability to conceive as you only need one egg to get pregnant each month, but rather an indicator of how many eggs they may collect on stimulation. Saying that, even that isn’t hugely reliable if you’re collecting eggs in a different month to when that measurement was taken which is often the case.

Mine was 7.9 one year but I had 17 follicles on the scan which didn’t correlate with that number. I’d only been off the pill for 3 weeks and as rubylou01 says, illness and even meds/ contraceptive pill can certainly lower the numbers !

I had a stressful time last year and next measurement I had done came back at 1.4 and only 4 visible follicles which was shocking.

Since then, and I’m a year older now, they can see 12 follicles!! Although I haven’t re done AMH as I’ve just had an FET, I’m sure it’s more now given the follicle count.

It’s def something you’d have to test regularly and diet seems to definitely help along with some great supplements like NAC and Co enzyme q10. So many women see better result after doing this for about 90 days pre collection. So although every one is different, it’s worth noting that it def can change, month to month. From all the research out there by specialists, It’s seems to be highly correlated to inflammation- so if you have less inflammation in the body, generally the better outcomes you have with this. Obviously that’s not with everyone I’m sure but it does seem to be the case a lot of the time which is why a healthy lifestyle helps with it. Good luck with it all and wish you the very best Xx

Thank you. I've added NAC and DHEA to my supplements along with everything else for the next 3 months. xx

I’m sure you’re doing all the right things. I worked with a specialist for a bit and learnt a lot from them. With DHEA, although it has been seen to improve follicle count and AMH it’s usually only for those who have low DHEA -S results along with low testosterone. Have you had yours tested? It’s worth doing these blood tests first to see if it’s worth taking as it’s a hormone and can actually have quite opposite results if your DHEA- S and testosterone is normal. Have you read ‘it starts with the egg’ 3rd Ed? It talks about all that in there so can be really helpful in knowing if it’s worth taking and also you’d need to know the right dose to take:) I really hope this helps. Def NAC as it helps to lower inflammation.

In my experience and from research, one of the best things is melatonin as although it’s a hormone it’s actually one of the most powerful in terms of its antioxidant benefits! So much so, that some IVF clinics are now prescribing it pre egg collection. I had it this time round and although I can’t say for sure as I was doing multiple things, this time I got a 5AA embryo compared to a very early blast last time. Who knows but it’s great for you anyway. Over here it’s on prescription only but i buy a very clean one called herbatonin (no nasty talcs in like the one clinics prescribe) and it’s from a company called symphony natural health. Just 0.3mg a night so low does. The lady is an expert in it and has published big papers on it. I would take it pre egg collection for egg quality :) again, this is just what I’ve learnt and was given it from my clinic but I now source my own from the company I’ve sent - I was very interested in egg quality as I’m 39 now. Best of luck with it all xxx

Hi - yes I've had my tests done and my testosterone is low so I've started DHEA and scheduled further blood tests at the end of August to retest testosterone and DHEA-S to check the levels. I was thinking of starting melatonin now, I have it but found it disrupted my sleep. Maybe it takes time to settle? I'm 39 this month and have signed up for another 2 rounds of IVF so need to do my best.

That’s great! Yes i found the one the clinic gave me did as it was 2mg. I only take 0.3 now which is much better. Really wish you all the best with your journey and sounds like you’re doing everything great! :) x

So mine was 8.6 pmol early last year. I had it rechecked recently and it’s increased to 15.6pmol. The consultant said it doesn’t increase like that and thought the previous lab was at fault at my previous clinic as he said his result wasn’t wrong! To be honest in the previous clinic my AMH always seemed abit low in comparison to a good follicle count, and I had mild ohss with the level of drugs I was on, so the new amh number at the new clinic makes more sense? It’s all abit frustrating if the other result was wrong as I was over stimulated with that round probably
