We’ve just found out our latest IVF cycle was unsuccessful. I’m at a complete loss and wondered if the following had happened to anyone else?
The day after my FET I felt extremely ill with extreme flu like symptoms (chills, sweating etc.) I felt so ill I was convinced it was flu or Covid. These symptoms lasted from around 7-11pm when I fell asleep.
When I woke the next morning I felt completely normal. This was very strange as given how ill I’d felt I expected to be very poorly and spend the day in bed.
I have two autoimmune conditions and wonder if this was an immune response by my body to the FET? I know it wasn’t a usual ‘bug’ as 1) I’m not ill very often and 2) given how ill I felt, it would have lasted for much longer (e.g days rather than hours.)
Has anyone else had anything similar happen?
We were extremely fortunate that our previous FET resulted in our daughter. (I’m sorry if that is difficult to read) This time around we followed the same protocol and had a PGT-A euploid embryo. The only thing that was really different was the illness I experienced. (Last time I did have a sore throat the day after transfer.)
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I’m meeting with my consultant this week.

First of all, I am very sorry this transfer did not work out. I hope that you are able to take the time you need to recover emotionally and physically.
I had very similar flu symptoms the day after my first FET (exactly a month following a failed fresh transfer). I was shivering, exhausted, achy, etc. I was sure it didn’t work and got really low HCG results that seemed to confirm the failure (think 12 at 9dp5dt). However, to everyone’s surprise, it stuck and I am now 23w5d pregnant with a little boy.
I wonder if the flu like symptoms are linked to hormones (did you have a medicated FET?) or maybe just to the emotional exhaustion that comes with the process…
So sorry that your FET didnt work, Im right there with you, my first FET failed and i found this out last wednesday, i stopped all meds and ive been so poorly since with flu like symptoms sore throat, congestion and i am beyond exhausted, i just put it down to all of the emotional and physical strain on my body, as well as all of the hormonal changes aswell. Also 2 days past transfer i has 2 days of bad congestion and sneezing constant. Our bodies have gone through so much, we are amazing, but we must just need to let our bodies adjust and relax. Really hope you are okay and feeling better soon 🙂
