Hello, we’ve been referred by our gp to a clinic in Lincoln for IUI because of male infertility.
I’ve read on the NHS website that they only do IUI for certain BMI ranges. I’m just in the “overweight” range.
Does anyone know if I have to be in the “healthy” bmi to go ahead with IUI on the NHS? Or because our gp has already referred us and got the funding I’m ok?
Thanks.

hello I had to have a bmi below 30. I couldn’t get that far down I kept sitting at 30/31 so the nhs wouldn’t take us. We went private when my bmi was about 35. The private clinic never once weighed me or asked my weight xxx
the GP referral doesn’t matter it’s when the clinic weigh you that matters and for every IUI or treatment they weigh you again. Your BMI needs be under 30 ie 29.9 or below to be put on the IUI waiting list at that clinic (they usually do this after an initial consultation there) and then again when you start the protocol for treatment. Ie each treatment so if you have 3 IUIs they will likely weigh you again every time. It really sucks but I just don’t want you to have any surprises and setbacks if you go in to any appointment with BMI over 30 as our clinic send you away for 3 months until you are under xx 🤗💜
We didn't go for IUI. We went straight for IVF, but yes, had to have a bmi under 30. I was fine, but where we live, my husband had to have a bmi under 30 as well, even though there it was female factor infertility. He couldn't get under 33, so we went private in the end. Check the eligibility criteria for the NHS in your area. They are very strict about their rules and may be unlikely to bend any.
