We are due to commence our 2nd fresh IVF-ICSI cycle in the next few weeks.
Our first cycle we had downregulation with norethisterone but it gave me horrendous side effects which required me to stop working. My response to stims was slow to begin and not wonderful, 5 eggs, of which 4 were mature.
We are not having norethisterone for the 2nd cycle and going straight to stims.
Curious if anyone had didnt have downregulation and had a better response to stims in terms of egg development and number of eggs retrieved?
Many thanks

My first round I did short protocol so no downrev just straight to stims. I had about 5 follicles growing, 3 eggs collected, only 2 fertilised and 1 made it to day 5 for transfer but BFN.
Second cycle we tried long protocol with down regulation, also had about 5 follicles grow, but only 1 contained an egg. That was fertilised this morning so waiting to see if it makes it to blastocysts and transfer.
So for me results are fairly similar. It’s not that one is better than the other necessarily, as if that was the case everyone would do the one that got better results. It’s just that each individual might respond differently to different approaches. So if you didn’t respond well to one approach definitely worth trying something different next time.
I did a long cycle with down reg and a short cycle without and got the exact same result - the same amount of eggs, mature eggs and one blast each time. X
