Hello. I am day 6 of my 2nd cycle of long protocol. My first one was unsuccessful.
I was on Busarelin in first cycle and didn’t have a bleed at all but did need to stay on it for an extra week.
This time I am on Nafarelin nasal spray and I’ve started bleeding today. I’m reading different things about it, is it normal to bleed at this stage? The clinic never mentioned anything?
Also, I’ve had a reaction to the nasal, I have almost lost my voice, but I’m waiting for stock of Busarelin to come in to change.

Hi there. I’m also on day 4 of nafarelin nasal spray. Apparently there’s a country-wide shortage of buserelin. My clinic said that’s what I would have been on.
I’ve been told to expect to bleed when my period is due as normal - mine is due next Wednesday.. I would have thought we’d only be able to start stims once the bleed has happened so the lining is thin etc. This is my second round but first time I did short protocol so just started stims with my period so I’m learning as I go this time.
How did your first round go? Are you doing anything different this time?
Yes my clinic mentioned the shortage but when i rang on Wednesday with this reaction (I can only blame it on the nasal as I feel absolutely fine except the lack of voice and it’s clearly coming from my nasal area), that there is some due in at my pharmacy but I’ve been ringing each day since and it’s still not there!
My first round was with Busarelin. I can’t remember if I started morning after my period but nothing was ever mentioned about it or if it happened. I did have to stay on the Busarelin another week which I think is normal.
I had 7 eggs collected (I am 39) and ended with 5 embryos, 2 which were graded good and the rest not so! We transferred the 2 good eggs but didn’t freeze the others, hence us going through the long protocol again!
We were very naive last time and just ‘expected’ it to work. Neither of us have had fertility problems in the past, we have 6 children between us (none together) but I had a tubal tie 5 years ago.
This time I have made sure I take my folic acid and magnesium ( I wasn’t told last time, I assumed to take folic acid when you are pregnant). But apart from that I’m not doing anything different, I feel nature will take its course! We are private so this is our last go as we can’t afford anymore x
Hopefully you can get the busarelin soon. Luckily I’ve been okay so far with nafarlein, but I’m only 3 days in so who knows what side effects will come!
I’m in a pretty similar situation to you in that I’ve had 3 kids before that I’ve conceived no problem so I never thought I’d be down this infertility journey. We naively assumed we could have another child when we wanted one but that was 15 months ago now and we’re still no closer to being pregnant. I’m 40 now and had hoped I’d be pregnant with this last baby at 39 but it’s just not happening for us. And I fear it may be getting too late.
Sounds like you got promising numbers last time. I only got 3 eggs, only 1 ended up as a blastocyst which was a poor quality but was transferred anyway. Didn’t work! So here we are trying long protocol hoping it’ll get us a few extra eggs.
