We are on our first IVF cycle so very new to everything. I had 9 eggs collected yesterday and today got the call that 5 had fertilised. We were a little disappointed as this seems on the low side but really have no idea so just wanted to see if any of you ladies have any insight or success stories to share?
I’ve also seen a lot of people talking about grades of their embryos but the clinic didn’t mention this. Will that come later? They’ve booked us in for 5 day transfer on Monday so I’m hoping that’s a good sign that they are confident in our little embabies. Thanks everyone ❤️✨

I had s similar outcome, 8 eggs collected, 5 fertilised, unfortunately it didn’t end up well. My friend had 5 eggs collected, 4 fertilised and only 2 embryos were developing and she has a lovely girl now so can’t predict what will happen. Be positive, I hope all goes well for you x
Yes, I decided to have 1 4BB embryo transferred although the embryologist advised 2 ( the other one was 4BC). Even now I’m still not convinced about double embryo transfer in the future. It is a very hard decision. My friend also had an average quality embryo and it worked.
I’m a bit confused by the grading system and the embryologist didn’t mention any grades when she called this morning! I’ll ask about this when she next calls on Saturday. I’m not sure if they’d give us the option of transferring two as it’s our first go and I’m 32. They said they always prefer 1 for people under 40.
Maybe it is too early for them to grade them. Yes, I was told the same but they advised to transfer 2 based on embryo quality. I’m 36 so you are much younger and you should have a better chance to have good quality ones.
Hey 5 eggs is a good number. It only takes 1. They will watch how your embryos develop over the next couple of days before transfer. They grade embryos on how normally they are developing and also the quality of each part of the embryo. Basically you want normal development with each part looking as it should with no abnormal looking cell parts. Some embryos stop growing or have abnormal growth which affects the quality. They will only transfer embryos that look good cell wise and have grown enough. If you call your embryologist at the lab they will explain the grading better than me. Mine was happy to explain it so I understood why they could only put one embryo in which had grown enough and had normal cell structures. The other 2 were not good enough.
Thank you that’s really helpful! I’m going to ask about the grading when she next calls on Saturday. I wasn’t expecting to be such a bundle of nerves yet but this part is so hard!
You will be fine. Have hope as like I say it only takes one wee embryo to stick. We only had 3 eggs fertilize and then 1 embryo left on day 5. Our embryo stuck and I am 13 weeks pregnant. Sending you luck and baby dust xx
I had the call today to say that 7 had fertilised, I’m also really confused by all the grading etc... I just want good news on Saturday. They said I might have it done then or depending on how they are wait till Monday. So nervous! Xx
Grades will generally come later, and can change over the time that the embryos are developing outside the womb.
5/9 is ok, but my clinic aim for two thirds fertilisation so would have expected six, but I think this can vary according to whether all the eggs were actually mature. It’s easy to worry about everything when you’re in this waiting time but I hope you can manage to keep busy whilst you wait to find out what’s happening. Xx
I only had 6 collected and 4 fertilised. We didn’t really get told gradings until transfer and even then they just said three were second from best quality and one less again. I’m pregnant with the one embryo they did transfer so gradings aren’t everything. Good luck xx
I had 7 eggs at collection and was disappointed but all fertilised. Only 3 made to transfer day. One transferred and 2 frozen. I am 18 weeks pregnant. It really is quality not quantity, try to stay positive. Good luck! X
I only had 5 fertilised and only 3 made to blastocyst stage. One became my little monkey. I would think that if they are suggesting a 5 day transfer quality shouldn’t be a concern. Good luck!!!
Thank you so much! They have booked me in for 5 day so 🤞🏻🤞🏻 they are confident like you say. So lovely to hear other success stories. Congratulations xx
