Hi you lovely lot 🥰 after a terrible week after a negative 2WW I’m now back on the mission of seeing what I can improve for our next transfer.
I was just wondering how everyone gets on with their weight. I’m currently 10st 10lb and the ideal weight for my height and age is 9st 13lb! And I fall into the ‘overweight’ category for BMI currently at 27.4 so to get to ‘normal’ BMI of 25 I need to lose around 11 pounds..
I’m now following a Mediterranean diet and have already lost a couple of pounds so I’m going to stick to it. But the questions I have are, do you really think that weight can impact implantation? Have any of you had positive outcomes and been overweight? Have any of you been overweight and had multiple failed transfers then had a positive after losing weight?
Thanks 😊 ❤️😊

honestly. Nope. I had 5 transfers and was definitely at my biggest on the last transfer which worked. We were told by our doctor that weight was not an issue but life style is you can have a high bmi but be active and healthy. You can have a normal bmi but laze about and eat crap everyone’s body is different. Aslong as you are active and eating well. My clinic didn’t weigh me once. They also said that losing a lot of weight (I lost 5 stone coz the nhs said I had too) was detrimental to the ivf as it messed with all my hormones xxx
Hi Boo718, thank you for your reply, that makes sense I suppose people who work out and have more muscle will weigh more etc so BMI would say they were overweight etc. wow on losing 5 stone, well done however I’m sorry it messed with your hormones and had a negative impact on your IVF to start with but glad you had one that worked in the end and as you said that was at your biggest which gives me hope!
I go for lots of walks and have been eating healthier so hopefully that will have a positive effect for my next transfer ❤️
Thank you.😍 I really hope it works for you. Honestly don’t stress yourself out about weight. Eat well, keep active, drink plenty water and get decent sleep. People all over the world who are hugggge have babies. That’s not the reason it’s not working. I wish you soo much happiness let’s this be your time xxx
hi, from a slightly different perspective, I went into my third and successful cycle , being overweight. Which at the time didn’t seem to affect anything but then when I gained more weight during pregnancy, it gave me an increased clotting risk and I had to inject Fragmin everyday for about 12 weeks at least.
So I wish I had gone into that cycle with a lower BMI.
Just a different perspective, and I don’t think you should stress your body making big changes in weight. Sounds like you are doing all the right things by having a good diet and staying active x
Hi kitkat10, thank you for your reply it’s good to see it from your perspective and congratulations on your successful cycle. I never actually thought of weight gain if I were to get pregnant so that definitely makes me want to lose a few more pounds before my next transfer, I am going to do it in a healthy way like walking, exercise and eating good food so hopefully it will all be good 😊 I would love to get to a normal range BMI but anything lower than it is will surely be better xxx
My BMI is currently 27.2, and while my consultant says that's fine I'm on a bit of a mission to work on my body ahead of my final IVF cycle in the summer. That being said, for my FET back in Dec I was the heaviest I've ever been with a BMI of 29 and it was successful (sadly m/c at 5.5 weeks), so carrying a few extra kilos shouldn't impact on that. As Boo said it's really about promoting healthy behaviours I think.
Hi neonpg, thank you for your reply. I’m so sorry to hear about your m/c I hope you are ok.
Yes my clinic said I am ok too with my BMI but I would love to lower it to at least 26 if I could but I will be trying in a healthy way and won’t be doing any crash diets or anything. Lots of walks and healthy food.
Studies say high BMI negatively correlate to IVF success rates, both male and female, which doesn't mean you can't succeed though. There are people a lot heavier than you who got pregnant and had a baby. But I have found after entering my first pregnancy that you shouldn't detox while pregnant We are surrounded by toxins from air and food packaging etc which sadly get passed down to the baby with birth and via breast milk... so if I were to wind back the clock and be in your position now, I would definitely do lots of detox using bath and sauna and fasting and juicing and so on! Toxins are stored in fat so if you lose fat now you are releasing them. By detoxing and losing toxins you also lose weight so that's two birds killed with one stone.
I highly recommend this interview with a holistic dentist who talks about detox and nutrition before childbirth affecting the child's oral health
