Clexane injections getting more difficult

Doodlebug23 profile image

I’ve been on clexane injections for 11 days now and they seem to be getting harder to push the needle through my skin 😩

Am I just hitting a previous injection site or near to? Aldo finding I’m bruising too.

Try and push the needle in really slowly but push the solution in quick, also don’t massage at all, ice before after and arnica cream. Did this and I had less bruising and easier to inject, rotate also. Hope that helps xx

I am pushing slowly but it feels like I have to push more to break the skin. I’ve been doing the injections in bed but maybe I need to try icing if it will help. X

Just to say I was advised not to use arnica by one of the nurses at the clinic previously

Did they explain the reason ?

I can't remember now sorry but just googled and it says to avoid during pregnancy so probably best avoided throughout the cycle?

Best check with clinic, as mine didn’t mind using as its cream and safe during pregnancy. But check with your clinic.

I found clexane hurt and bruised me badly until some ladies on her advised to hold an ice cube to the area you are going to inject for a minute or so then after injecting firm press a cotton wool ball to the area and hold it there for a minute or two. This massively helped with the pain and caused less bruising.

Hi, they are so sore! I'd one box that were great and as silly as it sounds the needles on the next box were as blunt... I found going slow helped x

Maybe it’s that! I can definitely tell a difference! Almost used them so be interesting to see what happens with a new box x

I had the same issue. My partner struggled to inject in the skin after we had been injecting for a while and some of the needles appeared too blunt too. We did have some struggles getting the needle in which was stressful but we managed it in the end x

I got so bruised on Clexane I only came off last weeks after my 12 week scan. Depending on how curvy you are you can take the injection site out a bit further to the side. I was also told the top of the hips or thigh as long as you can pinch and inch 😊

There’s plenty to pinch after all the IVF meds!! 🙈🙈

😂Tell me about it!!! 4 years of this process has left me the heaviest I have ever been! 🙈

Me too! It’s making me miserable. I keep thinking what’s the point in trying when I’m straight back to transfer but then boom another BFN. This time I’m having 2 days then distraction of stupid OTT exercise and healthy eating 😣

When’s your OTD? I have everything crossed for you. I was in the Jan group and I think we transferred a couple days apart and we are both with the Ib. I’ve just hit 13 weeks.

Come on lucky number 7🩷💙

Where did you get the needles? I found my needles from Spain where different to ones I bought in uk. The Spanish ones seemed to let the injection smoother/faster but my English ones were more resistant. I assumed one was narrower/sharper than the other 🤷‍♀️

I’ve got pre filled pens

Hi I know clexane can be very painful and cause bruising. It's important to 1) rotate site away from bruised areas and 2) pinch skin and make sure you are injecting in most fatty area of abdomen. I would push needle into the skin quickly at 90 degrees, but inject slowly and doing these things helped reduce pain and bruising. Also try reaching out to the nurse at your clinic to see if they have any other tips for you.

Thankyou. I am trying to use a different area and pinch the skin. I have been pushing slowly so I think I’ll try pushing it in quicker.
