No ovulation after failed cycle ?

Hey everyone hope you are ok.

never a dull day hey !

First bleed after failed embryo transfer about a month ago, I was convinced I ovulated due to dark lines on tests and Cm.

However - had progesterone tested on Day 23 of 24 day cycle and it was only 5. Dr said it needs to be over 30 to confirm ovulation. I know the day for testing wasn’t quite correct but apparently it should still be quite high at this point. Did my cycle mess up my ovulation ? Confusing. Now it’s time to try again and I’m not sure what’s going on !

When we were doing through tests to get a referral, I had times when I didn’t ovulate, they didn’t seem concerned. I have two boys now xx

Repeat again next cycle because first bleed is a withdrawal bleed not an actual period. If it turns out that you're not ovulating then you have upcoming IVF to fall back on or speak to GP for meds to induce ovulation.

Progesterone drops with start of a period (that’s what makes you bleed) so all sounds like your body is doing what it should. There is no pregnancy hormone to maintain the corpus luteum (follicle that has ovulated which makes progesterone in early pregnancy) so the corpus luteum breaks down and stops making progesterone, and the drop in this makes you bleed. Just like taking progesterone eg norethisterone pre IVF then stopping it makes you bleed.

I’ve attached a diagram. Progesterone is the line in blue. If your cycle was 24 days long and progesterone tested on day 23, it was going to be low on the test. This diagram is obviously for a 28 day standard cycle but still applicable. Hope that’s reassuring

Thank you….. yes I suspected something like this but couldn’t find any simple info. I did say to the dr that I came on my period the day after the test but she said it still should have been high. I think we know more than them sometimes, or you do at least 😂

I’ve just had modified natural and my clinic didn’t want any tests apart from ovulation POAS. Just gave me Ovitrelle when I got the positive test and then went for it!

I asked if I should have a progesterone test to confirm I was still ovulating and they said no.

Felt very weird with no scans or blood tests this time!
