ERA - medicated or natural?

Hi there,

After a failed transfer (6 transfers so far) I asked my clinic to do the ERA test but on a natural modified cycle. They told me this isn’t possible and they only do ERAs on a medicated cycle.

Can I ask if others were told the same and if this really is the case? Thanks x

I had mine on a medicated cycle as I thought everything needed to be the same as the conditions for the transfer. I took my progesterone for four days and one night and then they did the er. Sorry I can't be of much help!

I think ERA is less important on natural as the window of implantation is longer. In a medicated it’s very precise. You can still do EMMA/ALICE on natural cycle for micro biome testing (any point in cycle) Whatever you do the FET has to have the exact conditions.

Not sure on your circumstances but have all your cycles been medicated? Mine were, all BFN but our last FET was modified natural (just with progesterone) was BFP.

Wishing you all the best xxx

this is super helpful to know, thank you. I’ve done 3 medicated (1 BFN and 2 chemicals) and 1 modified natural (chemical). I prefer the natural route because I’m not meant to be taking estrogen due to a blood clotting problem. Really useful to know ERA is useless on a natural cycle. I’m keen to try another natural FET so fingers crossed. Congratulations on your BFP xx

Hi Nenad, I was told the same, but found out it was really so the Clinic could schedule their FETs in advance. I wanted to do natural modified and they did let me. I was only the second person that had this ERA protocol there, I was found to be post receptive.

I put an old post on at the time asking for peoples opinions on whether to do natural or medicated. I had some great replies, if you take a look they might be helpful for you also.

Take care and good luck. X

I’ll have a look, thank you. My doctor is adamant the ERA needs to be on a medicated cycle so I may abandon this idea. I prefer natural/natural modified xx

Dear, I want to share my experience with you I did era test in a medicated cycle and failed two transfers. Now the clinic I am doing my IVF they don't even take into account. They don't rely on it. I have a feeling just wasted my time. Don't know if it is worth doing it.

This is really interesting, thanks for sharing your experience. That’s frustrating. I hope you have success with whatever you plan next. I’m feeling less keen to do ERA as I’m unsure of effectiveness and I also really want to avoid medicated cycles if I can x
