Natural or medicated FET

Hi

A year after my last failed ivf at Christmas I have now got my head back in the game for my FET.

I have been to see the doctor today who has said it is up to me whether I have a medicated or natural cycle.

I was surprised because I thought they would recommend medicated.

What has anyone else done when they have had the choice?

My clinic prefer medicated but Ive done that a couple of times and I was so sick of down regulating (get very bad headaches) that I asked if I could do FET without meds. They said they would agree and Ive actually met in the middle where I am taking progynova to help build my lining and I will transfer when lining is thick enough....soon hopefully. Not having to down regulate is a dream I have to say! I wasnt keen on the fully natural FET as Im not really great at tracking my ovulation and this requires to be done for this way. Best of luck with your decision!xx

The tracking ovulation is my worry. The medicated cycle isn’t what I thought it was going to be, but I am thinking, if there is no difference in success rate, why put myself through the medicated cycle? I’m going to do ovulation monitoring this month, and see how that goes, then I will hopefully be in a better position to decide! Good luck for your transfer x

My clinic reckon there is better success in their opinion of medicated....as in using progynova (HRT). However if your clinic doesn't have a difference with success rates and you can do the tracking then that sounds preferable to me too!!xx

I didn't down regulate and took estradiol from day 2 of my cycle and progesterone started about 5 or 6 days before transfer. Never been great at tracking ovulation and cycle's a bit irregular so it works for me and I think the clinic prefer it for scheduling as they can control it much more.

I haven't suffered too much with the hormones so medicated has been fine for me

I did this too. My clinic says they have no difference in success rates between down regulated and non-down regulated fets but they don’t offer a natural fet.

Ive just had a transfer from a natural cycle. Ive never tracked my ovulation before but I had regular scans and found the ovulation sticks ok. Hopefully it works as it has been much more relaxing on my body and state of mind xx

Yeah that’s what I’m thinking. If I am medicated then I have to use pesarries again and I am dreading that thought.

I was given the pessaries yesterday as the consultant (who wasn't my usual one) saw I had early bleeding last time so suggested using them again I have to use them up the back as I'm too sensitive to use them vaginally I'm just hoping they work as well because they didn't last time xx

My clinic only recommend medicated if you have problems with regular cycles and ovulation, although they did try me on a medicated fet for my first fet. I had bad migraines while on buserelin so I haven’t done a medicated fet since, only natural modified fets, with no problems xx

Hi I have done two medicated fets as that's all my clinic offer I didn't really have any side effects from the drugs. It's a slightly longer process than natural if you have to down regulate but it does pass fairly quickly. Xx

Thankfully I have no need to down reg, my medicated cycle is just estrogen patches and pessaries, therefore I am heavily leaning towards a natural cycle, I think I am just nervous as I wasn’t expecting them to recommend it as an option!
