Should an fet mimic the era protocol?

Hi girls, looking some advice.

I did a natural modified ERA as my body refused to down regulate on a prevoius era attempt. This is pretty standard for me, down reg has been difficult on 4 separate occasions (2 fets and 2 era attempts) and ive ended up taking either nasal or injections for up to 6-7 weeks for them to finally get hold of my cycle.

For my next fet my Dr wants to down reg me again- no idea why and I wasn't expecting it. I understood that the next fet needed to mimic whatever you did in the era so that the conditions were exactly the same for transfer??

He says the most important thing is the progesterone and day of transfer.

What have other people done or has this been the same for others?

Apart from the fact I think it needs to be the same, I also feel like it's a total waste of time for me given my history (natural modified worked really well) but he says just cause I haven't down regged well before doesn't mean I won't this time! It also means I won't get to transfer till mid April now when I was expecting to do it in a couple of weeks!
