So I found out donor egg collection was today (12 collected, 9 mature) and I'm wondering about how many blastocysts I might get.
I don't know the fertilisation rate. It was poor with my own eggs (assuming due to age). My partner does have only 3% morphology but apparently that is a minor issue as we're using ICSI.
I think the average rates of egg development are as follows:
Maturity – 80% of all retrieved eggs
Actual 12 eggs collected, 9 mature = 75%
Fertilization – 80% of all mature eggs
Would be 7.2 embryos
Embryo utilization – 30-40% of fertilized eggs/total embryos
Would be 2.1 - 2.9 embryos
Hopefully we are covered by the 2 embryo guarantee with minor sperm pathology and fertilise ok.
Looks like we should hopefully get 2 blastocysts and lucky if 3. I'm thinking we might get 3 or 4 as the donor is only 24..
I'd be interested to hear other's donor egg conversion rates i.e. number of mature eggs and number of blastocysts.
Obviously everyone's different, but interested to know.

Hiya, I’m sure Diane is right - every pot of eggs/embryos is different.
Even so, we got 14 eggs, 9 mature, 8 on day 3, 4 blastocysts on day 5 and 2 more on day 6. We had those 6 blastocysts tested and got 3 normal and one mosaic. We have a 1 year old from the first FET and I’m currently pregnant with the second. Our donor was 26 years old. Wishing you lots of luck! Xx
We only got 4 eggs from our donor, I was a little disappointed I have to admit! But 3 of those fertilised and we got 2 day 5 blasts and 1 day 6 blast all great quality! Our first transfer resulted in our daughter who is now 10 months old! Heaps of luck xx
my donor was 23 and from what I have read, fresh eggs have better success rates than frozen so I think you will have very good numbers 🍀🍀
My last OE attempt when I was 42, gave me 6 eggs and 3 embryos which all failed. So I was quite scared when I had fewer embryos from my donor round, but it just shows how important the age/genetics are. 🍀🤞🍀🤞 xx
Thank you. My donor is 24 so I'm hoping the embryos will be really good quality and genetically normal. It is strange hearing the numbers as I was getting as high/higher myself at 42/43, but none worked. I know they don't overstimulate the donors though so numbers will be less xx
I think 9 eggs were mature, and that dropped to 8 excellent quality blasts! They did something to my partners’ sperm too (Macs & icsi) as they detected something that that’d never noticed before in my OE cycles (it was a new clinic in Spain) so that may have helped. And yes, transfer 1 didn’t work out, but I’m currently 16 weeks with transfer 2. Fingers crossed you get some sticky ones. Xxx
Hello lovely, as Diane said it’ll be different for every human, as you’ll know, but we got 5 blastocysts from 13 donor eggs. Our donor was 35. Currently 22 weeks and hoping for the best after transfer number 3. They couldn’t find any reasons as to why the first transfers didn’t work, they were ‘better’ embryos.
The lesson I have learned so far is that anything can happen, and we have to expect surprises at every step of the way!
Thank you so much. I was the same too when I was waiting for the results! In hindsight it was a decent number, but we still expected more and thought it was low because of her age, but the clinic kept assuring us that donors can now be up to 37….
Hi Orangeflowers, our donor was about 21/22 I think and she had 11 eggs collected. We got 7 high quality blastocysts. Sadly I miscarried the first two, (probably because of my since diagnosed immune issues) and so we PGS tested the last 5 and 4 of the remaining five were genetically normal. I agree with Diane - if you haven’t got other factors at play, then you only need one. Keeping my fingers crossed for you!
Our donor was 19 and I was initially a bit disappointed as the numbers were actually similar to my own egg rounds (I was 44 and 45 at the time of retrieval). Me - 12 eggs retrived, 10 fertilised, 2 made it to day 5 blasts resulting in failed transfers. Donor - 11 eggs retrieved, all fertilised, 3 day 5 blasts. We didn't test any of the donor embryos. Did fresh transfer (currently 22 weeks pregnant) and have 2 frosties on ice. I learnt its less about numbers and more about quality. Even if you only get 2 day 5 blasts, they should be much better quality. Good luck!
Hi Orangeflowers! We got 8 frozen eggs from our donor who was 27 years old. 2 developed into blastocysts, both were transferred and who are now 15 month old twins. The very best of luck to you. ❤️
