Early testing? Yes or no?

Hi everyone

I'm currently 5dp5dt with my first fet (failed fresh transfer in Sept)

I'm good not testing early, I worry I could get a false positive so even if it was positive I'd doubt the result and stress about it 😂

My OTD is Wednesday 7th Feb. My husband starts a new job on Monday 5th! So test day isn't the best timing whichever way the result goes

I'm considering testing Saturday 3rd Feb, so 4 days early.

I know alot of people prefer to test early. Some have mentioned wanting to pick up chemical pregnancies. Does this benefit us at all if we know there's been a chemical? Or is it more piece of mind knowing that something is going on and we have responded?

I guess I'm just looking for some guidance and advice about what others would/have done

Thank you all 😊

hey 👋 think we might have transferred maybe same day? 26th? My OTD isn’t till 9th February but I’m planning on testing on 9dp5dt (sun) on previous transfers I’ve got a fairly obvious result then! If it’s a negative I will just wait until OTD to confirm it I think. Any earlier than 9 days after transfer think it can be a bit iffy time wise and dependent how sensitive the test is!

Heya, thanknyou so much for your response 😊Yes we are! 26th 😁 oh that's odd our clinics obviously have different opinions on test day. That makes me more reluctant to test early actually! Yes 8dpt does seem just that little bit too early. I would do Sunday but I know my husband is going to be really stressed and anxious about starting the new job the next morning so I don't want to add to that 😆 if its positive we wouldn't be able to 100% focus on that, if its negative it will add to his stress 🙈

so your test day is Friday?

yes all clinics do slightly different test dates! My OTD is next Friday - ages away! On previous transfers I always make myself wait till day 9 as at least you should have a good line then if it does work. Any earlier and you just get line eyes. Maybe best just to wait until OTD or do what feels right for you guys. Tbh I find I become more anxious after testing so it’s probably best for me to hold out as long as poss!

Any symptoms yet for you?

I may wait until Friday yknow 🤔 I'll see how the week goes but that's definitely an option. Although if negative that means taking the pessaries and tablets longer than necessary 😅

I actually think I would be the same as you, more anxious with a positive test! My clinic follow up with a blood test but the results are the following day so I'd be on edge big time if we get that far!

No symptoms really. I keep thinking I have twinges but really I think it's just wind 🤣 my progesterone levels on FET day were 221! So no wonder this is causing me issues 🙈

I feel extremely irritable and have heightened emotions (my poor husband 🤭) which is horrible because I'm a very chill person usually. I had slightly sore boobs on and off but nothing major.

How about you?

yeh suppose if you are worried about your partner re timescales and his new job you could just wait longer if you have the patience and enough medication until 14dp5dt?

I’m worried I havent prepared myself for a negative result as usually my transfers seem to implant but not managed to get very far along!

Symptom wise for me I’ve had a little cramping but not much. Last two morning not been able to drink my coffee just felt it tasted awful and made me feel off. Although not sure if this is related to the horrible cold/flu I have at the moment and nothing to do with the transfer! 🤷‍♀️

It’s impossible to know isn’t it!

I would wait a bit personally. From my own experience if it’s negative, you will be completely demoralised (potentially needlessly) and still have to take the horrible progesterone just in case. I was still holding on that it could be too early even when it was in fact rather clear that the transfer had failed.

if it’s positive, you will obsess over every symptom, every line and panic about whether lifting the cat will harm it.

You are probably more sane than me (im actually quite a pragmatic and logical person but ivf makes the sanest of people a bit nuts so no shame here at all if you do feel like you are losing the plot too!!) but I would at least try to make it to a bit closer if you can’t get to test day because things are a bit clearer and the result more definite. Is test day 14dp5dt? I think some clinics test at day 11 so if you really really can’t wait, that might be a best.

I don’t think knowing it was a chemical that early helps anyways. Having had 3 chemical pregnancies, the positive does hang about a bit closer to test day anyways (so clinic would know and you can discuss it with consultant if that’s the case) but you haven’t put yourself through the mental torture of comparing lines for an extra few days.

I think that if the clinic needed to know when you tested positive, they would ask us to test daily but mine were very clear they wanted us to wait till test day.

Best of luck though and keep busy and have nice treats to distract you because this stage is actual mental torture x

Hi, thank you for your response and advice

My OTD is 12dpt, seems to vary clinic to clinic

Ah bless you, I don't struggle with wanting to test early tbh, I'm quite happy in a bubble of possibility I think 😆 the only reason I'm considering it this time is because my husbands new job is a huge move! New company, new role, lots to learn and lots of responsibility. I was trying to think of a way the result would least impact him on his 3rd day 🙈

I'll probably just stick to OTD. I could always tell him the result in the evening but I'm pretty sure he'll want to dobit with me

Sorry to hear about your previous chemicals. And thank you for explaining. That makes total sense that the clinic would tell you to test early if they needed to know.

Thanks again 🩷

It’s a Big No from me. I seem to be quite different to most of the women on this forum. I had zero temptation to test earlier than my OTD! I would much rather live in ignorant bliss. Even when it got to my OTD, I had to force myself to test. Personally, I don’t see much benefit to testing early. Whether it’s a BFP or a BFN, you can’t be sure if it’s correct if you’re testing early. It just brings a load of unnecessary stress - which is the last thing you need during the 2WW. Anyway, just my opinion. Best of luck! ❤️

Hi there! If it helps, my clinic’s test day was day 10! So I guess they’re pretty confident of the result by that day. Wishing you so much luck whatever you decide to do xxx

we had a chemical, serial early tester. For us I was glad we could get pregnant. gave extreme anxiety for the next two otd waits as I got bfps on early tests but was super worried they would disappear before otd. I’d recommend always waiting for text day. I just couldn’t face it if was a bfn and I had to tell my partner so wanted to prepare myself. However the result if a bfn can be unnecessary upset as it can change by otd! I had this, tested one day bfn, two days later bfp. x best of luck x
