In my opinion there is no need of Pgt-a test to be done as the donors are screened properly and our young(eggs) only if you want for your peace of mind then go for it.There should be no regrets later. After so many failed transfers by my own eggs i finally went for double donor as got my first ever "BFP"
I have struggled a lot with this question and consulted my childhood friend who is a top obstetrician at Cornell. The verdict was: don’t test and go for more embryos transfer.
a) test provides same info now vs. Later at 12 weeks
b) test puts embryo at risk
c) even embryos that test well can still not completely form a heart or whatever later and die; we don’t know how they develop and we don’t know how your body will help or not in the process; since for me this was an overseas clinic, I couldn’t just pop in again a month later for another round
You do lose the ability to pick based on gender, but it was more important for me to optimize for the chance of a human forming completely first.
As the donor should be young and healthy the majority of their eggs should be normal so testing not needed, unlike older eggs where the majority are abnormal. Currently 12 weeks with 1st DE transfer after 3 failed OE rounds. This is our first ever positive in 3 years. We got 3 day 5 blasts. 1 transferred, 2 on ice. Good luck!
hi, I agree with V3ra , after having my son, I tried another 3 OE transfers and none were successful, moved to DE and now 10 weeks 🤞🤞 after the first transfer. Many donors will be under 30 so eggs should be good quality and particularly those that make it to day 5 blastocyst stage. I only had 2 day 5 embryos so I didn’t consider testing and the clinic didn’t suggest it. Good luck whichever way you go xx 🍀 🍀
We had a 30 year old donor. She was an egg sharer. She and her wife needed funding to have their baby so my funding for egg retrieval went to her and I got some of her eggs. We got 9 eggs, 7 day 5 embryos. She and my hubby must have been very compatible! 😂 First two transfers BFN, third transfer was a double and resulted in our first ever BFP and our twin baby girls ❤️
We didn’t do testing and weren’t offered any as our first two transfers were NHS funded. I think younger eggs don’t generally NEED testing but as with everything, it’s also a bit of luck and a numbers game. Achieving pregnancy is miraculous, regardless of how amazing science is. Somehow all the right conditions have to align for it to work! And it can’t all be accounted for.
We are in a similar situation to you. I’ve had 5 failed transfers, including 3 early miscarriages. 2 of the transfers that resulted in early miscarriage were from the donor eggs. We have therefore PGS tested the remaining 5 donor embryos and 4 are normal, as we are likely to try one more time only.
I also have high NKCs and so I’m being treated with an immune protocol prior to the next transfer, including immune suppressants, steroids and intra-lipids.
My understanding is that whilst a young donor will have more normal eggs, they can still have some genetically abnormal eggs and so I think you can still have some abnormal embryos unfortunately.
It might also be worth having some immune related blood tests to check whether your immune system is responding normally to the embryo. We did this through Professor Shehata, as our clinic didn’t offer this.
Hi! two DEs in the UK. Both didn't work. Flew to Cyprus. 1st DE there was successful. We did testing there. Was successful! This was 3 years ago. Still have embryos with them and will go back on the IVF journey next year.
I think though that you can actually skip testing. Wishing you well on your journey! Good luck! Love and light. xx
No testing here, after 5 failed OE cycles we are currently 30w pregnant with first DE. We got 10 defrosted eggs, 8 fertilised and we got 2 blastocysts. We only put one back in and got one in the freezer. Our donor was nearly 31yrs so not super super young but seems to have worked out so far. Good luck!
My story isn’t so great 😢 I’ve had 5 failed transfers including 1 double with DE. 3 from first donor and 2 from second. All blasts have been excellent or very good quality and clinic have never suggested PGTa testing. They say it’s a numbers game….
after 3 natural miscarrages and 2 own egg failed transfers we move the DE and we were sucessful with our first transfer and have a beautiful 21 month old son xx
Thank you. I never thought i would consider DE, but my desire for another baby far outweighs my desire to continue on my genes. I think my big question for the consultant will be whether to transfer 2 untested embies (if we get 2) or whether to test and only transfer 1 if it passes, but we have had our fingers burnt with the testing before. We had 2 'perfect' passes. 1 was our daughter and the other i miscarried and we didnt expect that at all.... we are only going to give it one shot so im wondering if testing will give us a higher chance or just transferring 2 as we will try to pick as young as possible.
What search criteria do you get to filter down by? We are based in Ireland, but will be using their London Bank, under Care Fertility.
we used London egg bank. I didn't know Care Fertility used them. I thought it had to be with Londons Womans Clinic.
I had two transfered but only because there was one embryo that they thought wouldn't make on day 5 and I asked for them to put that in too to give it its best chance but only one survieved (we had 3 put in the freezer). My friend (who was also using DE)had two transfered and had twins so I suppose the question is would you be ok to have twins. if so I would go with transfering two as there is a very high chance that you would have twins. I have read that testing can cause embryo damage but I can understand you wanting to test to try to protect your heart xx
Yes, im not sure i want to do the testing again. Maybe if we had a load of embryos and we could pick, but if only 2-3 made it, id be keen to transfer 2 and hope at least 1 sticks. May need to talk my husband into that plan though lol.
