Slow rising HCG

Hi lovely people - so I was delighted to get a good hcg result of 407 at 12dp5dt, then had the awful news this morning that it only rose to 568, 3 days later, argh!

The clinic advised me to continue with my meds which I’m thinking is utterly useless, the prognosis can’t be good right?

Why is this so hard for many people..

Hi, Nenad. I’m so sorry to hear what you’re going through. That is a bit worrying. Can’t really offer any words of advice but wish you lots of strength, love and luck. Xxx

Thanks for your reply. I’m not feeling very hopeful, just taking it a day at a time. In most cases, with my hcg pattern, it’s a miscarriage around the 6-week mark from what I’ve read. Thanks for your wishes xx

I know first-hand how difficult it is when people give you false hope. However, I did just want to let you know my experience with my last IVF transfer after many failures. My pregnancy tests were very faint, the HCG started very low (at 11dp5dt it was 64) and the rise was very slow (two days later it was only 95) and stayed very behind what it should have been, and I of course manically googled and read research papers and worked out the chance of a live birth based on my levels at various points was only 4%. I was devastated and woke every morning expecting to bleed. But somehow, I stayed pregnant and that embryo is a funny chubby 18-month-old redhead. So, strange and unexplained things can happen and even though we should prepare for the worst based on the data, perhaps we should keep a tiny bit of hope alive too.

Hello, I can’t thank you enough for your lovely, thoughtful response. I would’ve been a little more optimistic had the levels been close to doubling by the 3-day mark, which would’ve been your case I believe with that trend. But a 40% increase in a 3 day timeframe is pretty dire.

I’m heading now to the clinic for repeat bloods but judging by the faded test line, I know what to expect this afternoon.

Thanks again, it’s always good to hear positive stories xxx

Just a little update for future reference: my bloods today showed an hcg level of 97, so it is definitely a miscarriage. Giving myself a break for a few months before trying a frozen cycle xx
