heavy lifting post transfer

Why are we told not to lift post transfer? Does it impact implantation?

I have a 20kg toddler. She needs lifting in and out of cot / highchair / upstairs sometimes / car seat.

I can’t not pick her up. And she is so heavy. Had a transfer on Thursday. Very worried it will just never work due to lifting her.

Anyone opinions / experiences welcome!

Many thanks

Hi Jpxx, I was told by the occupational health person at work, a RN, this relates to the ligaments which are changed during pregnancy and puts you at increased risk for injury. I do not know about implantation but if thats what the clinic says might be best to relay your fears to them. I work manual jobs lots of heavy lifting up to 20kg over shoulder and to the floor repeatedly in cold and in cramped spaces. I am not doing that anymore until no longer pregnant and will happily walk off the job if told to do so. Hope things work out for you. If you can have a step in between that you can put her on so its not such a long lift maybe that will help? Good luck.

Also I forgot to mention if you Google lifting technique, if you widen your legs do a squat and lift with bent knees and your bum muscles, and dont bend over or twist while lifting, this helps. I can tell you from my job this definitely, definitely helps.

My clinic say that you should not be doing anything that is considered unusual for you. You should not be putting your body under any pressure that it is not used to. I have a 21 month old and am constantly carrying her everywhere, they said that is fine. Try to remember that people get pregnant all the time while doing all kinds of strenuous things when not going through IVF.

I also transferred on Thursday. Good luck!

Thank you, I hope the wait is not driving you mad!! Feels like each day is forever. I long to feel symptoms but they never seem to come! x

I have a 4 year old and the clinic said it was fine to carry on lifting her as usual just don't take on any new strenuous activity like kick boxing etc.

I have a 15kg toddler and implantation has happened fine several times over the past year (miscarried due to other reasons) so I would say if this is normal for you then just be conscious of not overdoing lovely 😊 women all over the world have 2nd 3rd and 4th babies etc whilst lifting their little ones without any issues 🤗 xx good luck! I’m now day 6 post transfer… I think I’ve found thinking about not lifting & avoiding lifting more stressful than if I had just cracked on & lifted my 2 yr old!! My clinic said not to lift on the first day, but then I worried that if I lifted on the 2nd & onwards that this may have an effect too… so I tried to hold out until day 4/5 to lift her… so hard & probably pointless.

When I unknowingly and very luckily conceived my first daughter naturally after years of trying & surgery for Endo… I’d just taken on a really stressful job with long night shifts, took a flight, went skiing, had a few Vinos, had very hot baths… all which would have been in the 2ww and she is now 9!😊 I should really take my own advice!

I guess they have to be cautious & advise this, but doesn’t do too well for our stress levels when we have toddlers.

Good luck to everyone on the longest wait EVER!! 💕
