Covid and IVF

Hi all,

It's my first time posting here.

So I am on my first IVF with ICSI cycle, and have just started the stimulation injections. If everything goes well, I should have egg collection on the 23rd Oct.

However, I received a call yesterday from my physiotherapist (currently doing some treatment for neck and shoulder pain) and he's got Covid. My last appointment with him was last Friday, so 5 days today. I don't have any symptoms at the moment (hopefully this will continue) but I was just wondering whether someone has gone through IVF whilst positive for Covid? What was the clinic advice on these cases?

We've been waiting for such a long time to start on this - I don't really want to get delayed...

Thanks a lot for your help! xx

what a horrible worry. If you do get symptoms then it is best to delay. Speak to your clinic for advice. Many people seem to have worse outcomes from egg retrieval post COVID, and my DH when he had it had a huge drop in his sperm morphology from great to poor. If you’re actually symptomatic the anaesthetist won’t do sedation as it’s higher risk respiratory wise then.

Crossing fingers your steer clear. I would advise wearing a good mask (FFP2/3) if indoors with people near you given the number of cases around at the moment and try and ensure windows open. Especially once you’ve started stims as that’s a huge expense if your cycle then delayed. And do any socialising outdoors during a treatment cycle.

Sending so much strength and positive vibes. I know it’s so hard to contemplate any spanner in the works at any point but especially now ❤️

Hi SushiLuv. Nobody wants anything to go wrong or a delay of any kind. If all is well, then of course go ahead. If not, then remember you’re the most important person here, who needs to get herself well before you continue. Whatever happens you are on your way, even if delayed a little. Have a look at the information on Covd on our website. Good luck. Diane

hopefully you wont get it, if you do our clinic wouldn’t have you in for egg retrieval as (they said) it’s too dangerous to sedate someone with covid unless an emergency and obviously the infection risk to other patients and staff. It is a wee while away though so you could get it and symptoms be gone but I think our clinic would still cancel if symptoms in the last 10 days and I’ve heard it can effect egg collection results too (although needs more research). Let’s not meet rouble halfway though you probably won’t get it if it’s been 5 days already and if you do could be mild and short lived so gone well before the 23rd (our clinic don’t test or ask about it anymore either) 🤗 good luck xx

Hi if you are testing positive you will be fine.

I’ve just come out of Covid in week 3 with some symptoms still.

I was due to start this month and postponed it to next due to being so poorly.

Fingers crossed you don’t need to and stay well GoodLuck ✨🙏 x

Thanks everyone for your replies :) I am testing negative and today is day 6 after my last appointment with the physio so hopefully I am clear! My main concern is the fact that this first full round is funded by the NHS and I don't know whether if cancelled we lose the funding. But hopefully it won't come to it! xx

Yes I was mid way through my cycle last year and got Covid. I had to stop all meds and then restarted the cycle after it cleared up. Best of luck!
