fresh transfer cancelled because of cyst. Why?

39 years old. Egg collection today. Three retrieved. Planned for fresh transfer. Before retrieval the DR told me I wouldn’t be able to have a fresh transfer as my progesterone was 15.

AFter the op I saw the nurse who said I would be going with fresh transfer. I mentioned the progesterone and she said it was fine as the cut off is 10. She said actually - they have found a cyst so it will be a frozen transfer after all.

this will delay everything 6-8 weeks.maybe longer I guess ?

I’ve had cysts come and go in the past and monitored…. No big deal. But what if it takes longer to go down. It was probably brought on by stimulating the ovaries.

I don’t see why they can’t go ahead ??? I know a cyst can affect ovulation but implantation ? I dunno. Lots of confusion

Maybe it’s better to wait for better progesterone anyway ?

I’m not sure about the cyst but I know high progesterone can mean the endometrium is out of sync, and the embryo won’t be able to implant. I know it’s really frustrating and upsetting but it sounds like your giving the embryo the best shot in a frozen cycle x

Hi Cupppatea. That’s a nuisance. Perhaps it might need draining as they have a habit of pinching oestrogen. A worry for you but your specialist will give you good advice I’m sure. Good luck. Diane

Hi 😊 thanks for your reply. What do you mean by pinching oestrogen? I’m with the nhs.. I don’t know if they will be offering that as a solution, or how long that would take to get treatment ?!?

Depending on the type of cyst, it can be fed by your drugs and it means the clinic will struggle to monitor your levels accordingly. It basically gets in the way of their monitoring and means they can't keep appropriate eyes on what's happening with the follicles x

Thanks for your reply Yeah I get that it would affect the follicles but would it be detrimental to a transfer ? I suspect it’s been there all along which may explain why I’ve had a poor response to stimulation …. Only 3 eggs. Find out the quality tomorrow x

I hope you are feeling a bit better now form collection 🤗 I would phone your clinic today and ask them to explain why you can’t have a fresh transfer due to the cyst… I know in some circumstances it’s fine and others not so it will be specific to your case. Defo phone today and also ask if you had a trigger shot that means you can’t have a fresh transfer anyways. You will want to be really sure before the embryos get to day 3 as that’s when decision making would start with fresh transfer (ie day 3 or 5 transfer etc) you’ve had conflicting advice so I would defo be phoning to check! Xx

Starting think, how could they miss the cyst ? Has it been there all along? Defo felt like it.

Having a cyst would explain my poor egg count .

Hi Cuppppatea. It seems strange about the progesterone. Are you in the U.K. as the measurement seems different? I’m in the U.K. and I did a frozen transfer which resulted in a pregnancy and my clinic like progesterone to be over 100 on transfer day. In fact, if it is higher, it is better. The only thing they don’t like too high is oestrogen but that can be over 1000. On transfer day, my progesterone was 181 and oestrogen was 1621. I had a modified FET transfer with mild stims every other day to boost lining.

Yeah it seems weird . I’m in the uk. 15 would be low if anything?! I’ll clarify it today. I took Gonsai injection at 9pm two days before my early morning appointment for egg collection .

Update- just spoke to the nurse. That figure she says is too high. The cut off is 10 apparently - they would expect 3.2 for best conditions for a transfer?

Hi. Progesterone can’t be high before retrieval or just after egg collection but I usually have to start progesterone 5 days before transfer. Are you a week after trigger?

Hi. I had a fresh double transfer which resulted in my son in 2020. I had a trigger shot to do egg retrieval. The trigger was given a week before egg collection.

That is very odd. My clinic like progesterone to be high on transfer day. If it’s under 100, they usually add more. It can’t be high for trigger day but transfer is different.

Yeah and the medication they give you following egg collection is progesterone too? Im confused. I was supposed to have a fresh transfer and I feel like ive just been dropped at the final hurdle with no explanation of a) why a cyst would prevent transfer or how they plan to treat me and b) what the progesterone means..........and what's happening next, just see ya in 6 -8 weeks? Are you private or with NHS?

I’m private. I dropped my one free cycle of IVF on NHS at 38 and the success results were extremely poor. They got my HSG wrong as in they didn’t do it properly but kept me waiting 3 months for the results and wasted my precious time. We were dealing with male factor at that point.
