Hi fellow warriors. Has anyone done PRP before and had success in their 40’s? Is it painful? Do they sedate you? I’m considering it as was recommended by my doctor but nervous about it X

Hi. I had it on my most recent round (uterine lining, not ovarian). Im 41. It was my 8th round/ 6th transfer and the only thing we did differently- can't say for sure it was the thing that worked but I got my bfp and am now 7 weeks pregnant. I had it in Spain and was under general for the injections, took about 20 mins. I had some cramps afterwards but nothing too bad. I had 2 infusions after that about a week and 10 days later. That's just like transfer/ IUI. They put a catheter in, put the PRP up and you like down for 20 mins to let it work. Like everything else not the most comfortable but I didn't find it sore.

More than happy to answer any other questions. Apologies if you mean ovarian PRP, I'm not sure about that.

Can I ask more about this and where you had it done? It sounds like you had uterine PRP rather than ovarian, I don’t know much about the reasons for having this rather than ovarian PRP.

Yes it was uterine. Its used a lot for those who have trouble getting a thick enough lining. My lining was always thick enough but I have had 5 failed transfers and a miscarriage from a natural pregnancy so the doctors thought there was an issue with the quality of my lining and it was hoped this would improve it. I have lots of immune issues and the suggestion was the PRP would make rejection less likely.

Hi mine was in London fertility academy. Cost £1800. I just had the treatment and it tripled eggs retrieved! Just waiting on the quality but first impressions is that it makes a big difference in terms of quality.

Hi.

I am 42 at the end of August and just completed my 2nd ovarian PRP treatment. I had my first done in Feb this year and decided to have another round a couple of weeks ago as after the first we saw a rise in my AMH and more favorable FSH numbers. I haven't had success yet as I have decided to try natural conception rather than go into IVF stim cycles. I have been on the fertility journey for a while and after a cancer scare decided to no longer embark.

My 1st PRP treatment, they took 60ml of blood, passed it through a centrifuge and I ended up with (10ml of plasma- stem cells) I had 5ml of plasma injected into each ovary under sedation, it was sore afterwards for a couple of days (I opted not to have painkillers - don't do the same) it was not terrible but why put yourself through any discomfort if you don't need to (I someone think I was punishing myself - but that another story), however after my 2nd treatment where I had double the amount of blood taken (120ml) and double the amount of plasma injected (10ml each ovary) I was in a lot of pain for a couple days after, it was hard to stand up, I suffered with severe cramping and my ovaries felt very heavy. I did opt for the painkillers this time, and would go as far as to say that it was much more painful than egg retrieval. However, I am so pleased I have given PRP a chance esp as I am still wanting to achieve a pregnancy with my own eggs. Also I had been researching PRP for a good few years and was always put off it by my old consultant (I believe it was due to his lack of experience in the area) and it eventually have it done and see positive changes in my AMH etc makes me feel like I made the right decision.

So no success yet but currently waiting for AF to arrive.

Can I ask where you had it done? And have you seen a difference in your follicle count?

Hi - I am based in Cape Town South Africa, so have had the treatment there. I do not go into IVF stim cycles after the procedure as I have decided to stop IVF and try naturally, so I am not aware of whether there is an increase in follicles during stims. However, before having the procedure (which tends to happen between day 7 - 9 of your cycle) when you're close to ovulation they have seen a few more follicles coming to the party with 2 large follicles reaching the stage of ovulation. So due to the fact that I am not monitored and scanned as often as you would like stimming I can't be matter of fact about whether the follicle count has increased. I have yet to fall naturally either. I have definitely seen increased AMH though as this is monitored and measured before and after the procedure.
