Just wanted to wish you good luck when you start treatment The clinic should be able to explain the protocol to you when you attend the clinic Usually a lower dose of stims than conventional IVF - takes around 2 weeks including 5-9 days of meds Can vary as the protocol is especially tailor to suit your history ,bloods etc
Hi - I’ve done both conventional and ‘mild’ IVF. My experience was that the ‘mild’ IVF was very much a marketing ploy - you stim for the exact same duration but the clinic (Create and ABC) are only allowed to deliver a max dosage of 150 of Bemfola under the mild protocol. Some people do respond better at this lower dose, and I’ve heard it can boost egg quality. They say they go for fewer eggs of better quality. For me, it wasn’t enough and I had better success using a higher dosage with conventional IVF. Everyone is different though and I wish you all the best!
Just wanted to say I agree with Giggy. In my experience certain clinics especially the one you mentioned seem to use it as a marketing ploy as they sell a one size fits all package of mild IVF that they give you without proper investigation then when it doesn't work try to push you into more expensive full IVF without actually discussing why it may not of worked. That being said if your clinic are suggesting mild IVF now it's most likely based on your history of previous cycles, if your not sure ask them to explain why they are now suggesting it for you. Mild IVF does work for some people. Good luck 👍
I have had both mild and conventional IVF cycles. I have low AMH and DOR and found that I didn't respond to conventional high doses of medication and always ended up having these cycles cancelled as not enough follicles, and when I did go through with egg retrieval the quality of the couple of eggs retrieved was very bad. I was always then told to go to donor eggs, which I was not ready for. I went to another clinic and they suggested low stims as ultimately with my condition I would never really get many eggs anyway so rather pay less money, take less hormones and see if the quality would improve. I have to say that despite not having a successful live birth yet, when I embarked on mild stim cycles, I had double the number of eggs retrieved, with most getting to blastocyst stage, had positive pregnancy tests but unfortunately, they have all resulted in miscarriages. Which I never had when doing conventional - it was like my ovaries just shut down completely.
So I do think for me it was definitely the better protocol to take, with the reduced cost I was able to afford more chances to try with multiple rounds.
I have decided to stop IVF altogether for a while now as I had a breast cancer scare a few months ago, which made me reevaluate my life somewhat.
Oh my goodness, what a rollercoaster!! I am so sorry about your cancer scare, and your MC's.
I have done 5 conventional cycles. 1st, i got no viable embryos, 2nd i got 2 (i transferred 1, and got my beautiful daughter, I then transferred the 2nd and i MC's at 7 weeks).
I went on to do 3 further cycles which all either ended in no embryos, a MC and 1 failed transfer. My husband and I just couldnt do it again, but then i started to hear about a Mild cycle and we have decided to give it one last try.
I am still waiting on the details, dates and meds, but i was hoping to maybe start this next cycle.
Can you remember what days you took meds etc. Hoping if it doesnt start until day 2 or day 3 etc that i might have time to sort.
I understand you wanting to take a break though. Its so tough mentally and physically. It really consumes your life before, during and after. Its so hard to try let go of something you want so badly too. The whole infertility thing is just so unfair and people who havent had to go through it just never fully understand the pain it causes. xx
Thank you for your kind words. For a long time I struggled to remember who I actually was before infertility. I lost most of myself and have only recently intermittently found a way to have good days, there are plenty of mindless days of confusion and trepidation as to what to do.
I remember always starting meds on day 2 of cycle, 5 days of pills and injections day 5, 7 and 9. Then trigger shot.
Hope you can make this cycle. Waiting is horrible. Good luck.
Hi lovely, I had mild IVF both times - essentially the same process as antagonist (short) protocol so bout 10 days of injections (with a 2nd one from about day 3 to stop me ovulating) followed by trigger. I was given half the FSH dose that they would give for normal IVF. I have a high AMH so they did this to try and prevent OHSS. I don't have experience of normal IVF to compare but I found it fine and got a good number of mature eggs. Good luck xxx
